The SEC bring in Texas, A&M, OU and OSU to the West and move Auburn and Alabama to the East. There!
Edit: LSU will have better rivals in Texas and OU.

quote:Yes (at least I hope so), I think it's time to let go of the rivalries. We'll still have AU because of the same division, but otherwise, we'll just play Tenn like we do every other East team. It's time to move forward.
If the league expands, will the Gumps give up the annual games with Tennessee or Auburn. They are the reason we have the stupid permanant opponent rule. SEC West LSU, UT, A&M, OM, MSU, Ark, Bama or Aub.

Thats retarded. Alabama Tennessee is still one of the greatest rivalries in the country. I wouldn't expect the LSU fan who started this thread to understand becuase all of their rivalries blow.

I couldn't agree more. I'd curl up in the fetal positional if we have our only meaningful rivalry game is some 20 year old rivalry with a team we play in September to open conference play.

Conference expansion is bigger than Alabama. If we start adding teams permanent rivalries will be impossible to maintain in the current 12 game season and be fair to all teams every year. It's selfish, it will hurt other schools and it's time to put it to rest.

Not a deal breaker
Even if the SEC expanded to 16 teams there would still be one game between divisions - and you could leave Bama playing Tenn and Auburn playing UGA for the rivalries

No, hillbilly. Read the damn post and try to comprehend.
I said Auburn/Bama is must see but that no one other than hillbillies and gumps care about Bama/Tenn.

Tradition is one of the many things that seperates college and pro football (nd makes it much better).

Signed, the ACC. How did that work out for them?

No, it won't. And I don't want a conference that eliminates the rivalries that make college football so special. THAT'S college football's major advantages over the pros. Their rivalries blow to say the least. I don't want college to be NFL Jr.- there's too many things that make it special and mroe enjoyable to watch.

frick other schools you commie bastard. This 'good for the collective' talk is bullshite socialism. The SEC, with its permanent opponent, has CLEARLY doen better than the Big XII which didn't have a permanent opponent.

Ignorance at its best.

I think that most of the Gumps and Vols are making my point. They won't give up that rivalry plus no way the Iron Bowl is going away. I guess if only A&M joins, you could have the SEC West as LSU, A&M, Ark, OM, MSU, Bama, Au. Then you could keep the dumb permament SEC East opponent.

So you think people see LSU/Florida and LSU/Bama as bigger rivalry than Bama/Tennesee? Yeah, that's not reaching at all.

A permanent opponent is not dumb - it makes for better fan rivalries and better television
one of the arguments people justifiably make for adding schools like FSU or Miami or Ga Tech or Clemson is that it would give the SEC rights to rivalry games that are of major regional and often national interest
And to those who think it's not fair? I disagree. It would be unfair if Alabama's permanent opponent were Vanderbilt. If anything the SEC got extremely lucky because we lined up progams of highly similar overall quality as the permanent opponents - this evens out the level of competition and makes for excellent television

True... Bama fans always say Auburn is irrelevant.

Let me repeat.... The OLD GUARD at UA and TENN will not allow that rivalry game to stop. It don't matter what we or the SEC want.
Posted on 6/10/10 at 10:42 am to molsusports
All they need to do is add A&M to the west and GT to the east. Make them permenant rivals and everyone drops a rotating cross division opponent. The moves the SEC more into Texas and adds an old member.
Adding A&M and GT would also boost our academics.
I think UT thinks their shir don't stink and would be a big bitch about joining the SEC. The top teams in the SEC do not feel inferior to UT.

Agreed. But tradition doesn't trump common sense.

So the ACC is bad because they got rid of permanent rivalries? I thought it was because they didn't play good football...

See Notre Dame's attitude.

We are competing with other conference for superiority. Right now we are top dog and want to stay that way. The reason the Big 12 is about to go under is because of the same self-centered and immature attitude you are exhibiting. If you want a strong conference you have to make sure everyone in it is happy or else you risk what is going on right now in the Big 12. Simple as that.
quote:So you think we are better than them because of permanent rivalries? Good grief. It's because we have BETTER FOOTBALL TEAMS. I can't believe you are actually trying to attribute the success of the SEC to permanent rivalries. Talk about some shitty logic...
The SEC, with its permanent opponent, has CLEARLY doen better than the Big XII which didn't have a permanent opponent.
If we are able to keep the constant rival and everyone is still happy, I'm all for it. But if not, then you are going to have to put your big boy pants on and take one for the conference. It isn't as big a deal as you think it is. So quit your crying. You sound like a bitch.

Either Auburn and Alabama move over to the East, or Georgia and Tennessee move to the west.
