Well Mississippi isn't known for good food. That's why Currence came in from NOLA and has made a killing off those folks.

Back in the day (before corporations took it over, RIP) the quad at bama was what the grove wishes it was.

Agreed. The quad is way too corporate now. Sad

the ones who know most about it. Did the facts I posted bring up this old feeling for you? I'm sorry.

So now you've resorted to defending the grove with all your black bear passion.

I remember everyone telling you about how Hugh was buying recruits when OM had its brief glimpse of recruiting relevancy. You wouldn't listen to anyone and swore nothing was below board. Now you're pedaling $5 tours of the grove and blue and red bow ties

The Grove might be overhyped but the parade of skimpy sundresses and a very generous group of alcoholic friends is plenty enough to get me out of the house on Saturdays.

You must have me confused with someone else. I always said we were paying players. Try again.

First of all, how do you not know ANYONE else that goes to away games?
Didn't say that. Read it again. That being said though, it's hard for me to judge other people's tailgate "fun" based on my little group of State fans huddled in a far away spot away from the main tailgate areas protected by home fans.

But, have you ever walked in the Grove, barefoot, at night?

Who on Earth would want to do that? May step on an empty, broken vodka-water bottle, a hypodermic needle, or get bit by a damn copperhead.

I just steer clear of Oxfart all together.

It's fun and natural when you're a college kid. For grownups, its a little desperate and sad, getting drunk outside, on a college campus.

It also just signals that you can't afford a suite, otherwise you'd be enjoying a full bar and catered food in a climate-controlled environment.

Tailgate culture is por los pobres.

Only fans from places with no trees think it's awesome. Like they've never seen pretty trees in a group before. Everybody in the south goes there for the first time expecting Oxford Utopia but then they're like "ohhhhh, this it?" Ummmm, yeah umm nice trees?" It's really no different from any other tailgating. Except you can't grill. And you can listen to music.

Grove certainly seems prettier than a parking lot.

I met up with a group of old UT buds met up for the game there a few yrs back. We got one of those deals that set it up for us. Cool thing is they got it close to the edge, so it wasnt soooooo claustrophobic. Also, not to hard to walk to a building with a bathroom. Late game, so really was just sitting around catching up drinking beer. Chicks we ok, but nothing special either.

Ummmm all and all it was underwhelming. Just a bunch of tents smooshed together. Had a fun wknd other than the loss, but for tailgating purposes it was ok. Crossed it off my list, but definitely nothing special compared to all the places I've been.

I guess the cool thing about other places is that you walk around campus, and run into different groups that have their own flair. Not there as you cant walk around, and see anything different. Only one so far that was less fun from a tailgating perspective was college station.

The grove is the most Ole Miss thing ever. It fits them to a tee when you think about what goes on there on game day. I'll give them that.

As far as the consistent ratings, I think politics are the biggest reason for that, not necessarily honest opinions. However, it is something very different for a lot of the yankees in the sports media. They have never seen a spectacle quite like it. A display of ostentatious extravagance, through the old south social posture.

It's not that hard, sweetheart.

You can take the USA Today list and throw it in the trash. Any list that has South Carolina in its top five has no credibility. The fricking stadium isn't even on campus, its surrounded by industrial wasteland and fairgrounds, a bojangles, wafflehouse, and electrical supply companies. We had people come here from Athens to tailgate, and they were in shock how bad it was. Add to the fact that the weather is absolutely disgusting and downright dangerous, you better bring plenty of tents and water.
