While we weren't anywhere close to being a top team in 2001, we were nearly a 'good' team (i.e. much better than 3-8 implies):
That 2001 team lost 4 games by a total of 10 points (2, 2, 3, and 3 points!), another by 7, and a crazy 12-point loss played in a tornado and torrential downpour where the field was literally 4-6 inches deep in water. That's 7 of MSU's 8 losses that season that were realistically winnable. In that whole season there was only one blowout game where State had no chance.
But Steve still deserves the Rosebowl moniker as he was bold enough to publish a prediction that turned out so far off the mark.
There have been other supreme busts in the SEC--I remember one season where AU was picked preseason #3 and finished out of the rankings. It happens.

Although I think it is stupid to send back your Diploma, I think it is equally as stupid to change the Ole Miss mascot to a Black Bear, a Louisiana Black Bear at that.
I'm starting to wonder if they will even teach anything about the civil war in school in a few years. The civil war was not all about slavery for one. Second, it is a historical fact of our country. People in the South take pride in being from the South. This comes from not wanting a big federal government not slaves. Seems as though these same passions are being exposed again.
I respect the passion of the Ole Miss faithful to not want to see school tradition and history trampled on by some Politicaly Correct adminstrators. Gen. Patton would not only be ashamed but if this shite went on during his day, we might not have won that war.
