Perhaps you are correct, if you are referring to Alabama the league certainly has a financial dog in the race. You're giving a lot of people a lot of credit though.

BUT more likely.. The incompetence of an inexperienced commissioner allowing the decision to be delayed is to be blamed. The course was likely set by Foley with leverage before the SEC even knew there was a game being played. By that point they were along for the ride. The other option is to look insensitive on Thursday, which would be a PR nightmare.

There were no other options but to play on Saturday in Gainesville. I'm not sure why he dragged it out, maybe politics or maybe he was trying to figure out if the game really could be played on Saturday. Then maybe when he saw that millions of people were being evacuated that if the game was played on Saturday it would be to an empty house... i.e., lost revenue.

If I'm Foley, I would have cancelled earlier. Who plays a game during a hurricane? That's nonsense. Like I said, it's a lose, lose. If you play, you lose revenue from people leaving the area and you look like an insensitive fukk for playing a meaningless game while your fanbase are hunkering down, without power, water, etc.

Think this one is simple, he was waiting to be absolutely sure the game could not be played Saturday in Gainesville. The very best option was the original plan for all involved including Florida.

Here's a case where UT was sued and lost for not cancelling school due to inclement weather. I can also show you cases where schools were sued because they cancelled school. You can't win for losing in this sue happy culture.

Lawsuits for accidents that occur during snow and ice conditions are also not necessarily precluded by sovereign immunity. In those situations, whether a governmental entity could be sued successfully would depend on many questions, such as the following:

Were the weather conditions anticipated?
What level of priority was the route on which the accident occurred?
Was the agency aware, or should it have been aware, of the condition of the route?
Did the agency apply the proper treatment given the nature of the precipitation and other weather conditions?


A university would open themselves up to a shite storm of possible litigation telling people to come into an area that has been designated an evacuation area.

Why do you think the airports are all closed? Are you really going to be able to fight a lawsuit if a plane crashed during a hurricane? That's nonsense.
