It's not that Richt has not had success at UGA...it's that he hasn't lately and is clearly in the regression stage of his career there.

That's not really that great when you consider he's had the good fortune to play UT in down years, UK, Vandy, USCe, and 1 or 2 OOC cupcakes each year.

Not that great huh? How many other SEC schools have averaged 10 wins a year since 2001? Go look that up. You say he played teams in down years? Ok? Everyone else has to play those teams too, why does that matter? And are you REALLY going to bring up our OOC? UT is the ONLY school in conference who can boast a better one than ours over that time period. We play GT every year, have played OSU home and away, Colorado, ASU, Clemson, etc. And before you say "oh well colorado stinks" we made that contract YEARS in advance. The effort was there.

He still hasn't had much success against his rival, which should be the measuring stick.

WHEW! I'm glad you think so, because it just so happens that Richt is 8-1 against UGA's biggest rival. Let's look at his other records shall we?

Auburn: 6-3
UT: 5-4
SC: 7-2
UF: 2-7
LSU: 3-3
Bama: 3-1

It's really only one team that he hasn't had success against.

If you're happy with 2nd place in the east every season, I'm happy for you.

The notion of the Dream Team was a stroke of genius (Genius I tell you). I asked Richt in Savannah earlier in the year which staff member came up with the idea… he wouldn’t say, but he did smile. I don’t know if he was the one that came up with it… I don’t care. The person that came up with that simple idea needs a raise, or at least a thank you card in about five years.

Kids buy in… they just do… with the notion of being the number one class in the country. They don’t know that all colleges pull this stuff every now and then, but at least Georgia is smart enough to see what works. It doesn’t matter if you actually end up number one, but selling that will get you what you need to make your way up the increasingly confusing landscape of college football.

The Dream Team notion is working… Georgia won’t sign Tucker’s James Vaughters (he will commit to Stanford in the coming weeks) but every other player in the top 15 in the state is either committed to Georgia or seriously considering the Dawgs. This is a massive turnaround from the Dawgs’ recruiting struggles of 2010. After all, 2011 is a construction zone, and hard hats are required.

Also...there have been some pretty ugly losses to teams who clearly had less talent.

Vandy, UK, UT (2009), OK State...ouch.

Getting beaten by those teams early on in a building project could be expected, but losing to those teams this late in his career at UGA is unacceptable.

You're kind of right. The past 3 years Richt has: had his worst year ever as a head coach, gone 10-3 and finished in the top 10, and went 11-2 and finished #2. People today are so caught up on what happened yesterday or last week....Richt is coming off his worst ever season so that's the image people have of him. They don't understand that the major, glaring problems with this team have been addressed.

Clever. That negates in ridicule coming about Lousiana Monroe.

arent we in the business of 'what have you done for me lately?'

I'm not saying that's right or I agree with it, but it does seem that if a coach like Richt (with his achievements) has one bad season everyone is up in arms and talking about him on the warm or hot seat...

Back to the OP. it does seem that UGA is recruiting very good this year

I'm certainly not the biggest Richt apologist on here, but he's done pretty good without Donnan's players FWIW.

2005 -- 11-3 SECC
2006 -- 9-4
2007 -- 11-2 #2 in nation
2008 -- 10-3 top ten finsh
2009 -- 8-5

Granted, the last two seasons have been disappointing, I still don't think he's on a "downward spiral" and certainly don't think he'll be out of athens after two years.

Menlo, I'm not an apologist either. I'm certainly not ready to hang the guy.I'm excited about this year's recruiting efforts but I'm not going to start a thread begging for ridicule just by the title. I'll start worrying when Richt starts dreaming about recruits, way oversigning every year, etc.

WG this is a terrific pickup. Nick is the best athlete in the state of georgia this year. He also played db as well and was put up against the best wrs they played. So he will be here for our defensive backfield and play basketball for mark fox. His relationship with Caldwell will be big in pulling a 5 star for the 2011 class. GATA!!!

Not sure if you are keeping an eye on our weekend visits, but we have a few more we could add this weekend.
