Actually CFB Data warehouse recongizes all of Alabama's title claims except 1941, which is of course the only bogus one they claim.

Anti-Bama fans love to throw around the "zomg bama claims bogus titles" but really 1941 is the only one. Some of the other titles were non-consensus, but legit.

MOST years prior to the 60's/70's have non-consensus claims. Teams lost their bowl games a lot, multiple teams would go undefeated, etc. etc.

It is what it is.

Besides, does it really matter if Alabama has 15 or 14 or 10? It's gonna be more than your school so get over it.

Not that I agree with their reasoning about the '93 Auburn team, but shouldn't they also apply this same logic to the 2004 Auburn team that won every game on their schedule and was NOT on probation?

Yes, you should. That's why this "definitive" list is bull.

Team A goes undefeated and wins their bowl game.

Team B goes undefeated and loses their bowl game against Texas.

Team A beat Texas during the regular season to top it off.

Who is the national champions?

ETA: Only a bammer would pick team B

I understand that logic.

The problem with the article is that they don't apply the same logic when Alabama is Team A, and Notre Dame is Team B, like in 1966.

Because the article is biased against Alabama.

Auburn got horse fricked in 1983. We beat Michigan in the Sugar Bowl and should have moved to No.1 but MIAMI jumped from No.5. This was the bad old days where it was just popular vote.

Stopped reading at:

"And in Alabama's alleged title years of 1964 and 1973, Bear Bryant's teams actually lost their bowl games."

Many national championship teams lost their bowl games prior to championship trophies being awarded after bowl games. This article just looks like a hatchet job on Alabama - at least is showing bias right up front.

Also keep in mind that schools don't "claim" national championships, they acknowledge championships/trophies awarded TO them.

Dumb article is stupid...

Had Auburn routed Michigan in the Sugar Bowl I think you guys would have won in '83. The fact is you trailed Michigan 7-6 mid-way through the 4th quarter while, at the same time, #1 Nebraska was in a battle for the ages with #5 Miami. Everyone was watching that game, whereas only Auburn and Michigan fans were watching the Sugar Bowl.

Dude, if y'all are in such dire need of a national championship trophy, just get in touch with the Alabama AD. I'm sure they've got one collecting dust in a storeroom somewhere that they will be happy to let you borrow.

No it's not. We've been through this before. The AP was part of the BCS until the 05 season.

2004: USC. The Trojans had to vacate because of cheating. But they won at the time because they were the best.

bullshite.

They still kept the AP title though, which again, was part of the BCS until the 05 season.

That just means they factored into the BCS rankings. The AP, at least in my opinion, took a major hit in 1998 with the foundation of the Bowl Championship Series. Every conference agreed that the winner of the 1 vs. 2 match-up at the end of the season would be recognized as that year's national champion. '03 USC would have had a legitimate claim to their national championship had that season happened pre-1998.

Here's what the CFDW recognizes:

Alabama 14 (1925, 26, 30, 34, 61, 64, 65, 73, 78, 79, 92, 2009, 11, 12)
LSU 4 (1908, 58, 2003, 07)
Tennessee 4 (1938, 50, 51, 98)
Auburn 3 (1913, 57, 2010)
Florida 3 (1996, 2006, 08)
Georgia 2 (1942, 80)
Ole Miss 2 (1960, 62)
Texas A&M 2 (1919, 39)
Arkansas 1 (1964)

The bolded ones are pretty sketchy though imo.
