There weren't a lot, but was better than 0-24. LSU beat #5 Alabama in 1993 and #1 Florida in 1997.And there was a win over #5 Auburn in 1995.

BTW, Tennessee didn't beat Alabama or Florida in those years.

And yet, Tennessee has as many national titles as LSU since the 90s.

1983, 1989 and 1998 remain three of the biggest head scratchers to LSU fans in terms of football.

LSU's defensive coordinator the prior year, Carl Reese and Gerry DiNardo had a falling out. They had been together since DiNardo's first year at Vanderbilt in 1991. Not sure what caused the falling out-- with certainty -- but when Mack Brown left North Carolina for Texas he asked Reese if he wanted to go and he left a vapor trail to leave DiNardo.

Enter Lou Tepper. Tepper was a "respected coach" (read: bad head coach) but did produces some NFL studs while at Illinois. He was hired and actually coached the Independence Bowl vs Notre Dame. Notre Dame, if you recalled, had beaten LSU rather methodically in November, 24-6. In the bowl, Tepper's defense just shut down Notre Dame. Wow! We've got our man.

Where LSU and LSU fans were misled was Tepper's "read and react" worked well against plodding team's like Notre Dame, and really the Big 10 at that time.Tepper would signal in the call at about the last minute which led to mass confusion.

What should have let DiNardo know this defense was going to fail was in Game 2 vs Auburn. LSU jumped out to a 19-7 lead in no time. But, Auburn, who would go 3-8 and part ways with Terry Bowden mid year, just started picking apart LSU's defense. Also, LSU was ranked ahead of Tennessee that day, the night they beat Florida in OT. LSU won 31-19 but the dents in the armor were visible. Idaho but up 500 yds the next week.

You know about the Georgia game. One thing I still remember having been there in person was in one crucial series when Georgia was trying to eat clock, Tepper sent in the play so late all of the LSU DL were standing up when the ball snapped like playing in the street.

LSU was 2-6 in the SEC and in every loss a player from that team was SEC Offensive Player of the week.In Notre Dame's 39-36 win (LSU's SECOND 39-36) loss, Jerrious Jackson was named National Back of the week.

With LSU having been highly ranked not only were most games televised they were on different networks. Just about every week a different color analyst would go," I really don't understand what LSU is trying to do on defense" or some such thing.A guy would catch a pass on TV and it'd be ten yards before you'd see a white jersey in the screen.

Lot of seniors were on that 1998 team and DiNardo's recruiting had gone down hill and 1999 was a complete disaster.

I would say move GA to tied with LSU, or I wouldn't argue with UGA being slightly ahead.

The lack of National Titles would keep us behind LSU.

I MIGHT question if Florida could pass LSU, though. Not sure. I would like to hear arguments why either should be ahead of the other.....a serious point/counterpoint argument and not a flame fest

The problem is that people are too damn short sighted. The big 6 isn't based on the last 5 years.

UT is unquestionably #2 in the pecking order. And I'm sure this will be taken as a flame, but SOMEONE has to be 6th of 6, and that would be Auburn.

3-5 are practically interchangeable.

Not understanding your reasoning. Has Tennessee? no. but you look at the entire resume, not just the years you want to look at and/or consider. Georgia meets all criteria and stays. It isn't just about national titles, but that does play an important role.

I tend to agree, but didn't want to be the one to say it, for obvious reasons.

The question before you rank these is what time frame. All time, since 1992 and the separation to divisions or some meaningless arbitrary time frame.

To me if you're talking big 6 there's only one to use and that is all time.

Alabama
Tennessee
LSU
Florida
Georgia
Auburn

You can quibble over flipping 5th and 6th. But the first 4 there is no discussion to be made.

What a load of hypocrites LSU fans are. It's been clearly demonstrated that Tennessee beat a top 10 team in the coaches' poll in 2013, and yet you flame Tennessee by saying 0-24, which clearly is not accurate unless you ignore the coaches poll. So the AP national championship count is 1 for Tennessee and 1 for LSU, but for LSU you're now counting the coaches' poll. Hypocrisy doesn't get any clearer than that.

All of this anger needs to be directed at the SECN, not message board posters. Everyone is simply citing the graphic that was screencapped from the TV.

But it's been demonstrated several times in this thread that 0-24 is WRONG, unless you ignore the coaches' poll. Anybody sticking by 0-24 at this point had better ignore the coaches' poll, or they're a hypocrite.

My bad. You're 1-23. If that makes you happy,go for it.

Let's be clear about this, 1-23 is only slightly better than 0-24, and neither one are acceptable by Tennessee standards. We've had the worst decade in the history of our program, it's not exactly a secret.

What do you mean "You're" 1-23? I'm anything but a Tennessee fan. What idiotic notion made you think I was?

Tennessee is 1-25 vs top 10 teams in the coaches' poll, which LSU fans have been telling me for over the decade is the only poll that counts. 1-25 vs top 10 in either poll.

They act like we don't know we've sucked lately. Which is dumb because we know it better than anyone.
