It seems a lot of folks are projecting the BCS into the future playoff system. The BCS is now dead. There will be no more computer rankings. There will be no more BCS standings.

The Final 4 for the next 12 years will be determined solely by a committee of 13, who can put anybody they damn well please into the playoff. Can they refer to the BCS standings for help? No, there's no such thing as BCS rankings. Can they refer to the human rankings for help? Yes, but is that a good thing?

It is going to be a totally subjective cluster. This season's hypothetical Final 4 includes Florida State, Auburn, Alabama, Michigan State, Stanford, Baylor. Beginning right now, it'll never be any easier than that.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "power programs" start hiring people to lobby the voters all year long. They better hope that they've selected some honest voters or a pay for vote system will quickly be in place.

Say what you will about computers, at least there is some level of indifference with them.

People always complain. The BCS is terrible today, and they will cry about the playoffs too. But yeah, at least there was reduced bias attempted with the bcs. Certainly people want be biased when selection occurs, right?

the computer rankings will still exist, and I believe the selection committee will take metrics into account. The NCAA march madness selection committee does.

I've been on a pretty steady acid trip since then, so it seems like yesterday to me.

Makes things easier. It's the little things, bro.

I guess we should all prepare for the inevitable 7-5 Razorbacks in the 'ship.

Won't be 4 for very long....I see 8 coming in just a few years. Then that'll hold out for a good little while 8-10 years, then 16.

This is just the beginning of what will ultimately be a 32 team playoff. Will I see it in my lifetime?

Probably not. But I will see a top 8 playoff. Maybe even a top 16.

Flaws and potential problems aside, the 4 team playoff is still a step in the right direction in regards to an ideal post-season format. It leaves less room for doubt as to who is most deserving of the title of national champs because teams must do more work to earn it on the field

I thought I read that the selection committee would be producing their own rankings starting around week 6, similar to the BCS

The BCS is dead...and soon so will the only compelling regular season in college football. All these morons that want to NFL-ize or NBA-ize college football are just about to kill it.

You playoff expansionistas realize one of the greatest games in the 100+ years of college football - the 2013 "Got A Sec, Nick" Iron Bowl - would have meant nothing under an 8 team format. In fact, you are pushing the sport to a situation where a coach of a team in the top 3 will pull starters after a quarter or so to avoid injuries. Can you imagine the secondguessing that will go on if say, a Nick Saban plays AJ all game in the IB and he gets his knee wrecked in the 4th quarter? Or if Gus plays Nick Marshall and Robinson at LT in the SECCG and they get hurt?

We are rapidly approaching the day when tradiotional games in the last week (OSU/Mich, Iron Bowl, FSU/UF, etc) or the conference championships have all the appeal of the slate of Week 16 & 17 NFL matchups.

But, by all means, let's get rid of the BCS. I mean, it only did it's job extremely well for a long time.
