All I see there is that Alabama is Top 4, so there's a pretty good chance Alabama isn't going to get outbid. You'd think they were dirt poor by some of those comments.

The quality of city talk seems to be a moot point as well. If coaches legitimately gave a shite about the city they're living in when they coach there are plenty of premiere programs that would never have premiere coaches. Good coaches are all over the country recruiting anyway and elite coaches could send their family just about anywhere on a short private flight.

The only argument I could see for Saban to Texas is wanting a challenge. That's just about it. There's nothing he can do at Texas that can't (or hasn't) been done at Alabama.

They'd do it just to say they could.

You'll forgive me, Fawxie, if I think that your opinion is a bit biased in the matter.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying that Texas couldn't or wouldn't outbid Bama. Sure they could.

I just think it's a bit more realistic (from a business standpoint) to think that they'd make an initial play at Saban, then go after a younger, cheaper coach like Muschamp, Strong or even Sumlin.

Now there's a bidding war which would be interesting to watch.

I pray every night they go after Charlie Strong. You want to talk about seeing someone get humbled? Ol' Tommy Turtleneck (Jurich) would shite his pants in a bidding war with Texas.

They want a sure thing. From a business standpoint, how would $20 mil a year for Saban not be a smart move? That is easily worth it for them.

Because he's pushing 65 and is at a program with its infrastructure already well in place.

I can see walking into a ready-made situation, but starting over at a dumpster fire?

They talked to Saban's agent.

They asked Mack Brown if he wanted to retire, presumably based on what Saban's agent said. If Saban's agent said there was no chance Saban would bounce, I don't see them taking the next step to see if Mack would step down to make way.

When Mack said he didnt want to retire, they dropped that matter

From this sequence of events, I am assuming they were not completely shot down and will go after Saban with everything they have once they fire Mack after this season.

If Saban's agent had said yes, I don't see them giving Mack a choice in the matter.

Precisely.

Finebaum had this much right on his show today. The story leaked today was a shot across the bow at Mack Brown. His days are numbered and the people who leaked this wanted him to know that. If they still thought they had a real shot at Saban, I doubt they would have leaked anything about this to an AP reporter.

Saban isn't going to Texas but Mack Brown's days are most certainly numbered and he won't be back next year if Texas finds a suitable replacement.

Saban isn't going anywhere and we are winning another National championship this year. Roll Tide.

Lol. Saban turned around Bama from a shite show in two years. He would do the same in Austin. One recruiting class and he could steam roll that terrible conference. Two recruiting classes he wins the conference. Three amd hes competing for nattys. You are high if you don't see that.

Yes. Seven years ago.

I'm not saying Saban wouldn't take the job or that the 'sips' wouldn't offer, but why hire a coach already pushing Social Security age?

Why does Saban need to prove yet again that he can get an elite program back on the right track?

You really think he feels the need to prove that again?

Much better chance he goes to Jerry World.

The only thing Saban has to prove is if he can win a Lombardi. I don't see him wanting the same/lesser challenge in
Austin. If he coaches in the greatest state in the union I think it will be in Big D.

Agreed, and given that he and his family (and his players) were miserable while he was in the NFL...

You think those are a result of the NFL or the particular franchise he was with and the city in which it was located? The things that made him miserable wont be there in Dallas
