If you don't think Texas could and would pony up more cash than Alabama can afford, I don't know what to tell you. They've got oil money, bud, they could buy the whole University if they wanted to.

That's nice. How can you guarantee me (your words) they'll be willing to spend a dollar amount which exceeds anything Alabama could match?

As someone said, I doubt this is about money. If the numbers are close, Saban still might decide to bolt. A lot depends on what happens this year.

Bottom line is no one really knows what Saban is thinking but Saban. But I think it would be naïve to assume Saban has any inherent loyalty to Alabama. It's just his current place of employment, no more no less. He has a record of leaving when unique opportunities present themselves, and coaching Texas would be a unique opportunity. He goes and rescues Texas from the doldrums it only strengthens his legacy that much more.

People are trying to convince themselves that we are poor.

Nah y'all have money but not Texas money. They are flashy and reckless with their money right?

Most Texas insiders say the most Texas and their Board of Regents would offer Saban is 7-8 million dollars.

Alabama would quickly offer $10 million.

If that were the case they would have gotten rid of Mack Brown two years ago.

Most schools are poor compared to University of Texas.

Here are the USA Today numbers in case anyone cares.

I didn't say they couldn't. I said that I don't think the administration at the university necessarily would be willing to.

If you honestly think Texas is willing to back a Brinks truck up to Saban's door to the tune of $20 million a year, then I don't know what to tell you.

But they are going to have to go higher than $10 mil a year to do it, because we can match that if we really wanted to (and we would definitely want to to keep Saban). Now $20 mil would do the trick, but does anyone really see a university paying a coach $20 mil a year?

That's why I kept saying that if Texas had heard what they wanted to hear from Sexton, they wouldn't have been asking Mack to retire, they would have been telling him when his retirement would be announced.

Fans gonna fan though.

I could see Saban taking on another challenge before retiring. The original excitement is sorta gone at Bama right now. Bama winning is almost 90% taken for granted right now by many CFB fans, it's expected.

If Saban does leave, I'll thank the Man for leaving Bama better off than when he found it. He's done his job and more. If he wants a go to rise another program from the ashes. That's very understandble to me. Plus, it's hard selling great recuits to wait their turn these days. Saban knows this, he'd have any recuit he wanted at a new job.....

One of their biggest donors just spent several hundred million on an F1 race track. Just because HE wanted to be the guy to bring F1 to Texas. Granted, that particular fella is in Mack's corner on this, but that's the kind of money Texas donors have. Another used to own the Texas Rangers AND an English Premier League soccer team. IF Saban is really interested, UT will outbid Bama. .

This idea that Texas is going to go into football-factory NFL mode and offer the biggest contract in all of American sport is even more retarded than thinking Saban would leave in the first place.

The only possible place I could see Saban leaving Bama for is the Dallas Cowboys.

That is still ridiculously unlikely because Jerry would have to let Saban run the show.

Given Saban's age, current success, and current salary, I'd be shocked if he left for any other college gig. Succeeding in the NFL might interest him before he's ready to retire, but even that would be a surprise to me.

They'd do it just to say they could. You don't know what the Aggie to SEC power play has done to them. I've never seen anything like it. The very foundation of how they operate and exist, their very culture, which has always been a problem, but it's never held them down and out. The SEC and especially Texas A&M scare the living shite out of them. They never saw this coming. They will not be outbid. Aggies just raised $740 million in a year. The teasips will be able to gather $100 million for a five year contract if that's what it takes.
