I think this may be one of those "hey, everybody I know smokes weed, ergo everybody must smoke weed" situations.

Brings to mind the famous quote (or misquote some say) by New York socialite Pauline Kaehl in 1972 after Nixon beat McGovern in a rout: ""How could Nixon have won? Nobody I know voted for him"

Nobody elses campus come close to Athens as far as the opportunity's there are to put yourself in a situation that could end up with you in trouble.

Now while Athens has tons of bars(I love them), other schools still have bars/nightlife as well. If a football player wants to go out and get drunk and party, he can do that at any school. Just because one school has 4 clubs, and another has 7, doesnt change the fact that you can still go out and make bad decisions.

My biggest thing is how do you know your players dont get warnings? How do you know this isnt Crows 2nd/3rd time frickin' up with ACCPD? You're just assuming it's their 1st.

Is Richt too soft, in my opinion, YES. But let's not kid ourselves like this doesn't happen at other schools. It happens everywhere

While some of what you're saying is true, Richt creates the atmospher of "whatever" within the football team. I doubt they respect him, they sure as hell dont fear him.

Makes me absolutely sick to think that historical pieces were just thrown out with the trash.

They do, I stayed up late one night watching the military channel and all German weapons had a seral #.

While it was stupid for him to have a gun w/ the serial number scratched off, how fuggin crazy would it be if Crow kept a Nazi SS officers Luger in his waistband? "all yall ****s dont want me to get all holocaust on yo arse".

You're probably right. One of the cops will take it home with them.

I would suspect that could possibly mitigate the serial number aspect. Although it is clearly a law to not have a gun without a serial

No mitigation on that. Automatic felony charge.

I would say that is a reach. Can a German Luger be worth money? Of course, however it is like anything else collectible, it's value is very heavily weighed upon the condition of the gun itself i.e. scratches, pitting, rust, pieces missing. Not to mention the fact that there are many replicas as well.

I highly doubt considering the circumstances of this situation this is any type of collectors piece.

It'll be destroyed. The ones that "disappear", never have charges brought and certainly never become evidence in a high profile situation.

I'm thinking once the case is closed is when someone will take it home.

Maybe. I doubt seriously though. An audit would show it missing and chain of command on checking in and out evidence would be too much a headache, I'd think.

While I agree, I still think a cop would take it home, opposed to letting it turn to scrap.

Psshhh, Crow's probably an amateur WWII war buff like myself. He probably has maps on his dormroom walls of the battle of the Bulge, and Stalingrad. While constantly playing "WWII in HD" on TV.

Maybe, you know more about law enforcement than I do, but I always seemed to think that it was not common practice for Cops to take evidence home whenever they want.

Because the ACCPD doesn't give second chances. If you lived here you would know.

I'm not sure on the procedure for auditing evidence for police departments, but evidence goes missing more than you know. I know of two cases in which a case was thrown out because of missing evidence. One being a college buddy of mine was driving through south GA and was busted for some marijuana. His lawyer wanted the marijuana test(to make sure it was weed), a few months after the charge. The case was dropped because the police has "accidently disposed of the evidence". I guess they didnt think he'd fight the charge. I would also assume that it happens even more once the case is closed, and it either goes to an auction or scrap yard.

That you know of.

Sure they wont let shite slide with any random student, that happens at most towns. I got two charges while at UA, fake ID and MIP. Who is to say they dont let them slide? Just because they constantly get busted doesnt mean they dont get warnings. Crow had, to be rumored, a Nazi killing weapon on him for christs sake.
