guess, but if its a JAG then i just refer to them as the friday night guy. FSU never seems to have great pitching.

A quick peak at these stats says you're right.

i think oklahoma state beats south carolina.

That would be an upset, but it could happen. I hope we're getting on a roll this post-season, started in the final 4 games of our Regional. Everyone has been commenting about Okie State's awesome pitching, but our own pitching surpassed theirs in pretty much every category, playing a much tougher schedule. And they were next to last in the Big 12 in offense while we were in the top 5 of the SEC.

Playing us in our own stadium in the postseason is not where most opposing teams should ever wish to be.....

Baseball America Starkville Preview

quote:

Scouting Report
(anonymous coach breaks down the Bulldogs)

“They are a good club, above average in all three areas. I don’t think they have Florida’s pitching or Texas A&M’s offense. Good offense, good pitching staff, good defense—that’s why they’re still playing.

“Offensively, I think they’ve come into their own. They have a lot of guys that truly know who they are as players. They don’t have little guys trying to play big. They have a nice balance of left and right. They don’t have automatic outs in their lineup. They have some guys hitting 5-6-7-8 that put together good at-bats. They’re solid across the board. I like their team. Nobody you can sleep on. They have a really clear identity collectively.

“(Mangum has) just been so consistent. A lot of times freshmen get to May and they get a little tired or come down to earth, but he has not lost a bit of steam. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. He was a really tough out every at-bat, he didn’t give an at-bat away. I don’t think he’s a fluke. I think he’s a real player. I was glad to see him get some postseason recognition, a lot of times freshmen don’t get that just because he’s a freshman.

“Robson is probably above-average in center field—he really runs things down. They’re gritty, gutty in the infield. I don’t want to take anything away from their ability—they just make plays consistently. They play catch. Balls that are hit that are supposed to be outs generally are outs. I will tip my cap to Robson in center field. He can catch doubles and triples in the gap.

“They do have some (pitching) depth, but those starters have done a good job pitching into the seventh inning or deeper. Nobody wants to go to the ‘pen in the fifth inning. Hudson and Sexton have done such a good job, and Houston has come on. Those guys are pitching deep. When you can bring relievers in and they only have to get two or three outs, it makes the biggest difference. If you’re chasing a run or two in the ninth, you’re not screwed. But those guys have only had to get one or two outs lately. That’s such a big difference for relievers.”

Baseball America College Station Preview

Scouting Report
(anonymous coach breaks down the Aggies)

“Texas A&M is my favorite team in the league. It’s the best offense we played. They’re just so strong. Collectively, they have the most strength. You feel like you can’t breathe when you play them because they have multiple threats in their lineup one through six. You just don’t feel like you can breathe against them and then, by the way, they have like eight dudes that throw 94 (mph).

“They have so much stuff. They get to their eighth guy and here comes a guy throwing 91-93, touch 94 with a good slider. There are some real benefits to having that level of competition in your club. The teams I’ve had that are deep on the mound or have a proven bullpen are teams that play with so much confidence, and that’s where A&M is. They know they’re really good, and they play that way in a good way. They play with a real calmness because if they’re chasing two or three runs, they’re like, ‘We’re fine, we can score.’ And if they’re up two or three, they know they have a good bullpen. One knock is they’re pretty righthanded. They don’t have a lot of lefthanded pitching, if you’re trying to poke a hole.

“What (White) did in the league statistically this year is unheard of. He hit like .440 in SEC games. Just really good hand-eye coordination. Just a really, really tough out, and then he’s got the donkeys hitting behind him. He sets the table for the guys behind them.

“I can’t see them losing at home. It’s a tall order going into College Station and winning two out of three. It ain’t very fun. It’s a cool experience until the game starts and then it’s a bear. It’s a real advantage.”

Great writeups. I really like the way our club plays situational baseball. If we olay like we've been playing, I like our chances at making another run to the championship series. The field is as strong as it has ever been though. Not an easy task by any means

Always excited for LSU, but man I think the A&M-TCU series this weekend is going to be an absolute blast to watch!

Good luck to everyone's nerves this weekend

I really like our ball club. I know everybody says that about their team but I really do. I think State ball club is in better shape than the 2013 team that played in the championship. Majority of the season, State had 2 pitchers that could dominate a game. Now, with Houston stepping up and Pilkington having some good outing. State now has 4 legit pitchers that can have a quality start. State is going to need that if they make it to Omaha. Timely hits has been the difference all year for the bats.

I'm surprised there isn't any conference matchups in the supers.

Florida has had a lot of highly ranked teams spit the bit at the end of the season this school year. Would be nice if the baseball team didn't follow suit. I don't think we have the hitting to win it all this year, but I would at the very least like to get to Omaha by knocking FSU out. They are a good hitting team with 6 players hitting over .300 and 3 of the 6 are over .350 compared to last year they had one guy hitting over .300 and it was only .318

But their pitching sucks. Florida is much more complete with an elite level staff.

It don't matter what sport is being played, defense wins out 90% of the time. The saying " offense sells tickets and defense wins championships" that is 100% the truth.

The NCAA fiddles with the seedings to 1) get good geographic matchups and 2) avoid conference foes meeting in the supers. Even if Ole Miss and Vanderbilt had won, there would be no SEC matchups. The ACC had 10 teams in and got one ACC vs. ACC matchup, but even there it's only because you-know-who blew it.

I don't know how you win it ever if you don't win it this year. It has a lot to do with how things work at the moment but having Alonzo back is a big plus. FSU always screws the pooch in the post season and they will do that in the Super. Puk seems to be a bit off but you can get through to the Championship series with fewer great starters than other types of tournaments (assuming you stay in the winner's bracket). Lose your first can be a difficult path to the championship. I haven't bothered to even look at the CWS bracket line up but UL, UF, Texas A&M, and I am not predicting us (a bit of a jinx thing), but any of the 3 that make it to Omaha could quite likely be in the championship series.

I saw them in Baton Rouge. That game was a Saturday game. That was a pitchers duel. It wasn't a fan game but I always have enjoyed a pitchers duel
