MSU sets a limit of 14,000 tickets per game due to hot weather forecast.

Mississippi State is monitoring sales for the Starkville Super Regional. Given the weather forecast for the weekend, and in order to provide the most comfortable experience possible for our fans, the athletic department will be limiting total ticket sales to 14,000.

55k won't actually be there. The park has 5400 actual seats. We once in a while cram in over 7k but the fire marshal usually isn't happy with us. With construction in the OF the extra demand has no where to go. That is why a $10 SRO ticket is going for $100. And actual seat will be around $200 in the secondary market. I don't event want to think about club or suite tickets.

Also true. We had our scoreboard on the side of the OF in the mid 00s & the vibration messed it up so we moved it to left.

There are a lot of rumors swirling about new outfield seating (berms & a party deck) while converting the current in stadium berms actual seating. I haven't seen plans released yet. It makes sense to.

Baseball America Baton Rouge Regional Preview

quote:

Scouting Report (anonymous coach breaks down the Tigers)

“I think they’ve got good mojo going. You’ve got to get hot and clearly they’ve gotten hot and won a lot of tight games. On the surface, you look at that lineup and it’s not an LSU lineup. They lost a ton of stuff off last year’s lineup, but let’s face it, when was the last time LSU had a three-hole hitter with two home runs? And you’ve got Kramer Robertson hitting there. But it seems like every time there’s a big situation late, that kid comes through with a base hit. It starts with pitching and playing defense and getting timely hitting. That’s kind of the formula for postseason play, and that’s what they’ve got going on.

“Lange’s been better. We didn’t see him early, but he’s been a lot better down the stretch here than he was early on in the season. Poche’ has thrown better at the end of the year. I think he’s had some ups and downs. Beyond those two guys, I don’t know if there’s that surefire guy that they feel confident about. Obviously, Newman has been good on the back end. But that’s probably the chink in their armor is if you can chase the starter early before you get to Newman. I think that’s probably their weakness and the (lack of) long ball in that lineup.

“You’ve got a lot of scrappy guys that can run. The biggest strength, I think, for them offensively is they don’t strike out, so they’re going to force you to play defense 21 plus outs. You’re going to have to play defense because they’re not going to strike out. They’re going to run pitch counts up because they’re scrappy at the plate. I really like Freeman. I think he’s a really good player. He flies and he’s kind of tucked down in the bottom of the order. You’ve got Duplantis and Fraley, they do a really good job setting the table. And they can run. What they lack in power, they can run. They’re a pretty fundamentally sound team as a whole. But they’re not like Florida, there’s not really that wow factor, they’re just a really good college baseball team. And getting to play at the Box makes them that much better.

“They’re that team that can hang around. I would compare it to a basketball team—they hang around and they know how to play in fourth quarter. That’s kind of what they are. They hang around and they hang around and they believe and they’ve got the mojo rolling. So when it gets to innings seven, eight, nine, again, they’re going to put the ball in play. It comes to execution, where they’re going to bunt. They’ve got guys that can really run and handle the bat. They just feel like if they can keep it close, in innings seven, eight, nine, they’re going to win.”

If you read the section on CCU it sounds like LSU will be lucky to not get swept.

I don't think many LSU fans are delusional enough to assume that a team that has played in the post season as well and as often as CCU would be a cake walk, but the CCU writer makes them sound head and shoulders better than everyone else in the tournament.

Good luck this weekend everyone. I'm looking forward to the A&M and FL series.

Colombia Preview

quote:

Scouting Report
(anonymous coach breaks down the Gamecocks)

“That team starts with Gene Cone, offensively. He’s had an incredible year. Just kind of sets the table for them offensively. It goes back to pitching. However they do it, they’re going to run three guys at you.

“Reagan’s not your typical closer with the big arm and explosive out pitch, but he’s kind of the opposite, he’s kind of that crafty lefty on the back end. He’s more frustrating because you feel like you should hit him and you don’t. And he is the polar opposite, they wanted to go Schmidt, (Tyler) Johnson or Webb, Johnson and then Regan on the backend, and he’s just the completely different look of what you’ve been seeing for seven, eight innings.

“They play really good defense. Similar to Florida, but not quite Florida. I think they lack the depth in the bullpen, but some of those guys are stepping up right now for them. I don’t think their lineup oohs and ahhs you. Cone, you got Thompson-Williams, Jonah Bride’s a nice little player but he’s not your typical guy in the middle of lineup. He kind of shoots everything the other way and stays inside the ball and does a good job. I think that’s their weakness, is the bullpen depth and the bottom of that lineup.

“And with the (junior college) guys in there, Webb being freshman and Schmidt (a sophomore), they obviously lack some postseason experience which is funny to say about South Carolina. It kind of sounds like an oxymoron but that’s reality. They’ve got three JC guys playing and some sophomores and freshmen. Those guys don’t really have that type of postseason experience that past South Carolina teams have had.

“They don’t have the experience of playing in the postseason, but that’s where I think their crowd comes into play to help them to get that cockiness and that confidence. But Oklahoma State’s walking in there after playing at Clemson. That will be a really good matchup because of Oklahoma State’s strength on the mound. They could give South Carolina problems scoring runs. If they can get the lead early, it’s almost like these playoff basketball games, if you can get the lead early and take the crowd out of it, I think that would really help them. It’s going to be the same recipe (as last weekend) for Oklahoma State: pitch, play defense and get to a lead and then, who knows?”

Scouting Report
(anonymous coaches break down the Gators)

“They’re young in some spots and they probably haven’t had the repeat performances from Schwarz and a couple of guys in the lineup, but I think they’re the most complete team we’ve played all year long. It starts on the mound and defense.

“It’s going to be tough sledding against that staff. I mean, it’s got to be the best pitching staff in country, hands down. You’ve got to keep it a low-scoring game and then get hits when it’s time to get hits. With Shore, I don’t know if there’s another pitcher in the country you’d want right now to win a game. If you could pick anybody to win a game, it would probably be Shore. If you could pick one of the three guys (to face), it might be Puk. Because I think Faedo has the best slider in the country. If you’ve got a strong lefthanded hitting lineup, I don’t know if it gives you an advantage, but it kind of helps, especially against Faedo. But his slider is so good it gives lefties problems. The type of arms they run out with (Dane) Dunning, (Brady) Singer and (Kirby) Snead. It’s going to be tough sledding scoring runs against them, so you’ve got to really pitch against them.

“I think Alonso becomes the wild card for them because he changes the complexion of the offense so much. When he’s not in there, you saw how they struggled against (Louisiana State). At the end of the day, I think, it’s the most complete team. Because even if some of those guys didn’t have the same years offensively they did last year they’re still those guys. It’s still Buddy Reed. We’re not talking about some slouch. I mean, it’s Buddy Reed. And Schwarz is still going to strike fear into you every time he steps into the box. I know he didn’t hit 18 home runs again, but he can hit a home run at any given moment. If there is a weakness, that’s what I think it might be. But even then, with Alonso back it’s tough. They’ve got a lot of veteran guys mixed in with the younger guys.

“To beat them, you’ve got to keep them from scoring, because you’re not going to score very many. (O’Sullivan) just has too many options at his disposal. If somebody comes in there and he struggles, he can get him out right away. Nobody has more toys in the bullpen than he does. Nobody. It’s crazy.”

Pretty accurate assessment. This series should be awesome except for the 100+ temps. Good luck to all - let's sweep the supers and have another SEC tourney.

No. Not good luck to everyone. I want no part of Florida again and I would much prefer CC over LSU. Good luck to SC & MSU. We need them in Omaha to try and knock out UL & Miami.

I'm not here to make friends.

From the A&M write-up:
quote:

“What (White) did in the league statistically this year is unheard of. He hit like .440 in SEC games. Just really good hand-eye coordination. Just a really, really tough out, and then he’s got the donkeys hitting behind him. He sets the table for the guys behind them."

I'm not enough of a baseball geek to know, but why is he calling our line-up a bunch of jackasses?

And, "You're welcome" to those of you who will take the easy "Aggie-Jackass" punchlines.

Everyone misses Ray Tanner as coach I guess. You know you never want to be the next coach after a legend, you want to be the coach after that coach. The USC fans just haven't warmed up to CCH yet but if he wins the SR, he will win them over.
