A&M score 42 on the Tide last year. 31 first downs and 628 total yards. I didn't say A&M BEAT Alabama...just made their defense look bad.

And that is the point. Bama has and had a way better D than what USC showed and A&M lost what, 4 games last year???

I contend that this 1 game, while very good, is nothing to be worried about, yet.

No doubt, it's one of the advantages of the Air Raid. Every scheme has benefits and disadvantages. To act like one is better than another is stupid. If you have your personnel and a competent coaching staff, then any scheme can be great/championship caliber.

Keys to slowing down the Air Raid:

1. Run the ball and keep that offense off the field. Nobody in college has the Seahawks' D, so limiting them to less than 75 plays is paramount.

2. TACKLE. Force them to have to be in 3rd and 5 or longer. IT gives you your best chance at generating pressure and turnovers.

3. DO NOT BLITZ like a tard. Being over-aggressive will get you owned. You do still need the blitz in your arsenal but time it well.

In short, play fundamentally sound, work on TOP, play bend/don't break, blitz intelligently.

It's very difficult and there's a reason Air Raid teams generally give defenses hell at all levels (save the NFL). It's an equalizer like the spread option. However, defenses will adapt to it and get better, just like they did with spread option.

The Air Raid has disadvantages too. TOP is usually a problem for them. If the QB has a bad game, they're in trouble. (see LSU '12 and '13) It is really difficult to have a great defense when they're on the field this much and they don't get to practice against a pro offense.

fair point

Very true. They lost a lot of talent. But I am willing to bet they are MUCH better than they showed last night.

Oh I'm sure they'll rebound

I THINK Georgia can, too, this year.

for sure

I just said those 2 because of the west matchup

I gotta tell you....I'm pumped and excited to see Fournette. I think he will be starting by third game. Your running attack is gonna be deadly. If your QB can comethrough for you it could be an exciting year in Red Stick.

All reports from camp is that Fournette has been "unstoppable" vs the 1st team D

idk if that's good or not, tbh

saw a play against 1st team D where he caught a little swing pass, breaks a tackle, jukes a defender, and just hits the burners for like 60 yard TD

if he stays healthy he's going to be something special

but you're right about the qb...we need it to happen asap

LSU's defense has matched up very well against it because of our speed and our DB's don't allow much separation.

LSU defense matches up perfectly against A&M.

A&M will eventually have to adjust to what LSU does on defense.

You stop Sumlin's offense the way you stop them all. Shut down the run and rush the passer. They didn't try to run enough last night to indicate if it could be shut down. And USCe didn't rush the passer at all. Props to A&M but acting as if they can't be beat is ridiculous. They are better than anyone thought, but USCe is likely worse than most imagined.

The key to stopping our Air Raid is getting pressure with your front 4. Rushing the passer with LB is counterproductive. Palmer, for all his faults, was right about that. The ball gets out before LBs can get there and it goes to WR in the space they vacated.

The problem with that prescription is that not all teams have the D-line talent to get consistent pressure from the front AND have quick LBs who aren't liabilities in coverage. For example, both Bama & LSU recruit linemen on that level, but of those two, only LSU has LB that can cover WR in space. Bama's are, or at least they have been, big run stoppers who lack the lateral quickness necessary to be assets against the Air Raid over the middle.

I think LSU has the corners to beat aTm, but worry that our D line won't get enough pressure.

Dang did they win the superbowl?

Based off that post game video clip, they sure are going to be broken when they do lose.

I agree with Moustache and Cooter Davenport.

You listed Bama and LSU D. Watch the Auburn game in the 4th quater again.

Auburn DL was teeing off on Manzeil.

There are times when I hate the 7 on 7 crap. It turns the game into flag footbal.

Some of you guys need to come to grips with reality. Instead of "sure thing buddy" or "lmao stop", why don't you try to dispute one single thing I said in the OP?

I'm sure if Jennings/Harris or Sims/Coker went to the #9 team in the country and threw for 511 you'd be all "settle down it's one game", right?

Well said. I don't why some people are so insecure that can't admit that what A&M did last night was impressive. USC is not that bad of a team and they will still compete for the east. However, A&M is that good of a team and people severely underrated us.

But, its par course for the rant to be insecure about their own teams that they can't admit the reality of a situation.

LSU may not have great QB's generally...but they are usually good enough to win. I would take a lesser QB if we could win a National Title!

Or for that matter a SEC Title.

Absolutely. I still come here, but this forum has potential to be so much better than this. There are a few of us who get it.

What are you talking about?

I said, "Shut down the run and rush the passer." I never said anything about bringing linebackers.

Also, for all of Bama's greatness they haven't had a legit pass rush in some time despite most teams needing to throw to beat them because they are behind.

To go on record. I like what Sumlin does and how he is recruiting. I suspect they will be a factor going forward. I don't believe the Air Raid is unstoppable. Rush the passer and shut down the run and see how well it works. Most important thing for the Aggies this year is they appeared to shut down what should have been a good running team. Though Spurrier pulled a Spurrier and abandoned the run way to early. He has been doing that for 21 years.

To be fair I say the same thing to Auburn fans when they get wonkers about how our offense will be unstoppable. However, our commitment to the run is preferable historically.

I was saying that SCAR didn't look good. Obviously Aggie looked great. Just saying it's too early to be crowning TAMU like OP is.
