I don't see what's wrong with his statement

It took pretty severe sanctions to put them on your level. Those are now over. That's what is wrong with that statement.

They don't need to be rebuilt. They have 10 5 stars on the roster right now.

You need to follow their program. When USC was a monster, they were incredibly deep on the defensive line. Those take time to build because the ones that can contribute at the level needed as freshmen are pretty rare. That's why you see a lot of teams run at young stud freshmen linemen.

Let look at it:

Salaries: We pay more even though they hired a coach more recently.

Recruiting ground: Texas vs Cali is a wash

Facilities: Ours are actually nicer than theirs (or almost anyone in the country), and our stadium situation (though less historical) is much nicer.

Alumni base: we are a large public school and they are a private school. I am sure we have more living alumni.

Program momentum: we hired the likes of John Chavis and still have the same head coach we had under Johnny, while USC just fired their coaching after losing to Washington.

USC is the better job, but not for the reasons listed. It is for other reasons, like historical success.

I hate to pile on, but I just can't resist.

USC is not a lateral move. Not even a little bit. The right coach there could do wonders.

No big name coach will go to USC as long as Pat Hayden is AD. He's gone as soon as they fire Sark. He's been a hot mess, so many of their teams are shite now & he's a haughty, arrogant SOB...

USC is ripe for a rebuild as more time passes from the sanctions. Someone is going to show up and have a helluva opportunity.

Sure, but the best case would be a guy who is used to recruiting in California and has experience in the Pac. Like A Chip Kelly.

Same thing happens to a lot of programs. DL talent really is the determination of your ceiling in college football.

I'll take college station over LA all day , but I'm not comparing the 2 from a recruiting standpoint

I never said it was easier to recruit to A&M than USC, I just said the recruiting grounds are roughly equal. TX and CAL

I can never keep up with the current rant-approved talking point about Sumlin.

You have to think that is easier to get out of state kids to come to Los Angeles though.

USC just fired their coach because he was drinking on the job, not because they roll through coaches like Auburn.

We have done VERY well under Sumlin getting West Coast kids to play for the westernmost SEC program.

Plus quite frankly USC doesn't need a good recruiter like Sumlin. An idiot could get a top ten class there. We needed a recruiter like Sumlin when we hired him to flip the script. USC needs an actual good coach to coach up the talent already there. Sumlin as a coach is still up-in-the-air.
