Whether football coaches, players, and fans alike want to agree; it kinda, sorta is "gimmicky" in nature.

Of course, it's not a "gimmick" offense, but it isn't the "typical" smash-mouth, in-your-face grinding type of football that we've come to enjoy over the years. It's very much a finesse style of offense.

Cool to watch for fans, nightmares for def. coordinators!!!

You should watch rugby, no forward passes, no pads. You would love it!

cyde is good people. Honestly I wish more folks took trolling more seriously these days instead of mailing it in like State has done this week.

I wouldn't call it mailing it in.

More like setting our your crab traps and coming back later to haul in the catch.

The Flagshippers particularly have been known to excel at this patient form of harvesting the catch. Just drop the OP in the water and come back at the end of the day.

In this case, Aggy did all the work for the Grinders by putting out the traps (SwagCrabTrapper 9000s) with Aggy already in the trap.

Got to hand it to y'all...that's innovative. Some might call it gadgety but not me. I recognize the skills.

It would most certainly eliminate aTm as a contender in that sport!!!

A&M was a perennial distant second to UT, and had things stayed the same (conference wise) it would have never changed. Very different situation now, the SEC rules the World and nothing UT can do about it. If UT was to ever move to the SEC then it's back to normal but A&M is the more attractive program for recruits right now… despite in every other aspect UT being a more attractive choice for most sane people. A&M is weird and very annoying for anyone but their own breed. UT is a great school, a cool brand in a great location but the SEC trumps that.

Until very recently I did consider all those air raid, ultra open offensive schemes somewhat gimmicky. To this day very few if any team with that mentality has either won a national championship and/or fielded a true elite defensive team at the same time. UF during Meyer did but not as fast (tempo wise not talent wise) and much less pass dependent as these other teams.

Those HUNH teams look to create confusion… and guess what defense they get to confuse the most? Their own in practice.

Elite defensive teams usually have a counterpart that looks to dominate opponents physically, not by winding them but by physically imposing their wills in a violent way. Practices are tough and in your face… Defensive teams get that personality.

I am beginning to reconsider if this is as absolutely true as I once thought… but that is where the “gimmicky” label comes from if that is your question.

UT didn't have their shite together... just like programs like Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida... and every other program has had their bad periods... but once that got turned around nothing A&M could do. RC Slocum remained the coach and the program went in decline... not because anything they did wrong...but by their naturally superior peers (OU, UT, LSU.. even Okie Lite) got their shite together.

The 80s totally existed. They were awesome.

I don't remember much of the early to mid 90s.

Somebody told me they smelled like Aggy Spirit but I just yawned and said Nevermind.

And now I live amongst latte liberals and granola crunchers. Life is weird.

It also needs to be said that Texas Football talent is over rated. Plenty of good players have come from there and still do; but how come UT and A&M have never been truly dominant at the same time? If this is the supposed goldmine for talent, how come not even once have we seen it?

How come those thanksgiving dates between those two pretty much almost never had serious national title implications for even one. NEVER for both! For years UF and FSU largely with Florida talent had those games… and Miami was right there… Alabama and Auburn last year from a much smaller state did it? How come?

Texas superiority it's a myth that's why.

A&M was better you are right... but still not truly elite.

As I said things are different now with the SEC ..but the history of A&M is a perfect example of what being a Little brother is.
