Maybe Tennessee should have been in the running too, then.

You're retarded if you don't think South Carolina would have easily gone over Clemson if the 2 per conference rule was in play. Luckily for Clemson, it's not.

11-2 in the ACC gets you a BCS bowl victory

11-2 in the SEC gets you a New Year's day bowl.

Sorry, our conference is just tougher. It's exactly why we beat you every year now. We know how to win big games when it matters, Clemson doesn't. Once we stop getting in our own way, we will win a title of our own.

Grats on beating Ohio State though

Spurrier is the MAN, if he was still at UF we would still own UG and lead the overall series by now. Instead we have an ex-UG player that still hasn't won the WLOCP as a player or coach.

Dabo is a douche. Spurrier is both an awesome HC and a guy who makes interesting and funny comments in public.

As a side, Spurrier is 0-3 to Les Miles while both have been HC's in the SEC.

I agree with the OP. The back and forth jabs between Spurrier and Dabo seem very childish. While I think Spurrier can be pretty funny and witty at times, and Dabo not so much, it just seems weird how in the last 2-3 years, Spurrier has started to turn attention back to Clemson and their rivalry with them, considering when he first arrived, he wanted to take the rivalry off of USC's pedestal.

quote:

***
“In other words, beating Clemson presumably had become more important to USC than playing in BCS bowls.

You might recall that when Spurrier was hired he brought with him from Florida a mentality that put the desire to win conference championships above all else. He removed “Beat Clemson” signs from the USC locker room. Just like at Florida, he said, beating your instate rival was not that important if you could win conference championships.

He has changed the culture by taking it off of it's pedestal. It's still important, but not #1.

Was going to click the link 'til I realized it was Ron Morris. Not interested.

It's important to note that Spurrier didn't say much about Clemson until Dabo went off the rails with that whole "Carolina is in Chapel Hill, USC is in LA, we're the real university of South Carolina" bullshite. When Dabo insulted the university and the alumni, Spurrier began baiting and beating Dabo at every opportunity.

no sympathy. frick Dabo Swinney.

Sorry, but I think you are a little off on that one. Dabo's comments about USC in LA was made in response to Spurrier's comments about the real Death Valley being in Baton Rouge.

Lol... no. They were made in response to someone else's comments that was incorrectly attributed to Spurrier.

This. I believe it was Todd Ellis who said something but it wasn't about Death Valley I don't think.

Spurrier didn't make those comments. Todd Ellis made them, and they were incorrectly attributed to Spurrier. This was pretty clear pretty quickly, but Dabo still went on his little rant.

Was that news article with direct quotes from both Spurrier and Dabo not accurate enough for you?

You are thinking about another incident where the USC twitter guy misquoted Spurrier and it was the USC guys' misquote of your coach that elicited the response from Dabo.

The new articles with dates don't lie.

Did you read the article you linked?

quote:

There is no evidence Steve Spurrier ever made any derogatory comments about Clemson. As we pointed out here Thursday night, play-by-play man Todd Ellis misquoted Spurrier when he was taking a jab at the Tigers. USC’s official Twitter feed @GamecockFB also posted the Ellis quote but attributed it to Spurrier.

My favorite bit of the article you obviously didn't read ("Dabo Swinney doubled down on the comments he made about Steve Spurrier and USC following the Tigers practice last night. Swinney said it is “convenient” Spurrier waiting until Thursday night to deny making the comment on Thursday." from the first paragraph...):

"“I don’t know if he said it or not, but there certainly hasn’t been any rebuttal”, he said."

The rebuttal has been going on for quite a while now...

at the idiots who keep complaining about Spurrier's trolling like it's something new.

*clears throat*

HE'S BEEN DOING THIS FOR MORE THAN TWO DECADES YOU MORONS.

If anyone is a child, it's Dabo, because for years he couldn't man up and admit he was getting owned by "little brother" and kept trying to pull the "we're the better program" card and try to eschew it. You can't talk shite immediately after getting housed, and you sure can't do it when it's been happening on a yearly basis for half a decade. He's easy bait for Spurrier, who's made coach-trolling an art form. Plus, Dabo's little "they ain't Clemson" rant a few years ago was 100% staged, which is even weaker.

No, Swinney started the USC is in California shite back in 2011, nearly a full year before your link. It was in this rant.

MASH HERE

So, if we're keeping score correctly,
Todd Ellis talked some shite in 2011.
Dabo went apeshit, after his team lost.

2012, Spurrier plays LSU, makes a comment about Death Valley. The link you posted was in response to this. You're a year late.

His staged rant, no less. The guy is such a weakarse that he has to stage a "rant" and rip off a message board diatribe in the process.

Yeah, I did. Again, I think all this banter back and forth between the coaches is pretty stupid, but the two linked articles clearly show that this banter wasn't started by Dabo's comments about the real USC being located in LA as Royal Air posted.

They coach and recruit teenagers. They spend a good amount of time around them. You don't think a 17 year old junior in high school looks at what Spurrier says and thinks playing for him would be awesome? He beats his rivals, has USC playing at a high level AND talks shite like a boss? I would imagine it's more appealing to a teenager then Coach Richt's tired Jesus speech.

This x infinity.

Also, your post made me think of LSUFreek's gif...
