So if Texas won't play you, schedule someone else decent.

Cool, Mike. And I agree. Water under the bridge.

I just feel like Spurrier was instigating again without the proper info. B/c he really doesn't care.

But facts do matter, and he shouldn't blame A&M for Texas acting like babies. I'm sure we're working on some good marquee non-conference opponents for the future. Also, I'm looking forward to facing the Gamecocks in 2014.

Agreed bigDGator. Should happen soon enough.

I love the ole ball coach, btw. And I think he legitimately gets off on trash talk. He wants to build up a full year's worth of jabs before we play them next year.

doesn't the Governor, an A&M grad, appoint the board of trustees for UTexas? and doesn't the UTx President work for the Board? and doesn't the UTx AD work for the President?.... i think A&M can do more to make it happen.

Because he DGAF.

Spurrier says and does what he wants.

And he would coach circles around Sumlin if they played the Aggies this year.

I totally read it as him saying Texas is the childish one. He said it would be like Clemson doing the same to us.

Texas is a childish bitch. And I can't wait to play A&M.

i think he nailed it with regards to A&M, but it's not the aggies fault UT backed out. They still should find a major conference opponent, though... but it's only hurting their own fans' experience.

It evened out a little bit, but we play Clemson every year and also play North Carolina this year. Georgia’s got a tough schedule this year, too. Did you see who Texas A&M plays out of conference [Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU and UTEP]? That’s embarrassing. They don’t play Texas anymore because they both got mad at each other. To me, that’s childish. It would have been like Clemson saying they were not going to play us anymore after we joined the SEC. They would have gone crazy around here. We’ve been playing these guys for 100 years, and now all of a sudden, we’re not playing them? The schedule can make or break you.

Looking forward to it. I'm already fired up about the SCarolina game next year. Like I said, I know his angle. Spurrier is the original jimmy rustler.

Maybe both teams can make it to the SEC CG so we can see for ourselves this year.

Spurrier is not the only one wishing we played better teams. And we will eventually. But with the move to the SEC, I think they figured we had more than enough challenging football games on the schedule.

I don't think anyone expected Sherman and Sumlin to turn the program around as quickly as they did.

South Carolina only has 4 Seniors on their team. They'll lose Clowney, but A&M is likely losing JFF. Probably not a good year to be playing them.

It's not like we went looking to only schedule creampuffs, but when our designated long-term OOC marquee game suddenly becomes a conference game (Arkansas), there's only so much you can do. Also, the SEC league office asked A&M to hold off on making any big OOC scheduling moves in order to help facilitate the construction of the 2014 conference schedule.

Rumblings are that A&M and VTech are going to have a home-and-home in 2016/17, then A&M plays a two game series against Oregon the following two years.

Point is, we didn't move from the B12 to the SEC and start construction on a $450M stadium renovation/expansion because we wanted to AVOID big games.

Whether or not it is Texas' or A&M's fault, A&M's OOC schedules are still weaksauce. Not to mention, the east team that they get to play every year is Missouri.

That ends after this season. Mizzou picks up Arkansas and A&M picks up USCe.

Longhorns or no Longhorns, A&M should still be able to find better non-conference opponents to play.

That non-con schedule is embarrassing.

No one is claiming we have a good OOC schedule this year. If we could snap our fingers and change that, we would, but scheduling doesn't work that way.

And as mentioned, our permanent rival going forward will be South Carolina, beginning in 2014.

SS: Actually, I interviewed for the LSU head job in 1986 after the USFL folded. I flew in and talked to the committees but wasn’t even invited back for a second interview. Mike Shanahan interviewed for that job, too. They ended up hiring Mike Archer, who was already on the staff. They could have saved a lot of money because they brought in a bunch of us.
