Not that it matters but, under Bryant, Bama won 5 outright SEC championships in a row from '71 to '75...
I could be wrong. Just thought I remembered Spurrier breaking Bryant's record of consecutive SEC titles.

Mike Tyson lost his last 2 fights against scrubs too. That shouldnt taint his legacy at all. He's still Iron Mike fricking Tyson.
Difference is that he finished his fights.

Nah, I recognize greatness when I see it.

The man is 70 years old and is doing the right thing. Yeah, he could stick around but there's no point if he can't help make the program any better, which he himself pretty much admitted. S.Car. can now focus on getting a new HC.

Sc could have focused on that with an end of year retirement announcement. The right thing would be to teach your players to NOT be quitters in life when the goings get tough.

he said he is doing it now to get a jump on a search so that they can work on recruiting with a new coach. Why wait until after the year in the situation they are in. Stick to video games, the real football is over your head.

I thought the difference was that Spurrier didn't chew the ears off his opponents.
How anyone could hold Mike Tyson up as anything but a failure is beyond me.

What are some of your life accomplishments that give you the right to judge his and how he's going out?

All of that can be done with him still coaching for 6 more games, and why finish the season? Because quitting is what losers do.

Solid 18th post, Sweets. Frick off.

As much as I disliked having him on the other sideline as a Dawgs fan (both at UF and USCe) to call him a loser is the most ignorant post I've read on the Rant.
And that's saying something. Congratulations OP you win the award.
YOU'RE certainly not a loser!

You are posting on an internet message board (and a self identified idiotic one at that) about how one of the most respected and accomplished college football coach (see nickname "The Old Ball Coach" is going out a loser. Have a great workday at Servpro.

Well, yeah. Most people don't play or coach college football.

The two expressions you conflated are:
1. Hung them out to dry, or
2. Left them high and dry.
Guess you're just a loser at writing.

I wasn't sure what to think but after hearing his presser I'm convinced Spurrier did this the right way, at the right time and for the right reasons. This season is lost for them, they won't win a title of any kind. He put South Carolina’s interests above his. Let someone else take a crack at it…maybe there is a hidden gem there that can become a great HC in that staff….all this while your AD gets a head start I a national search if that doesn’t pan out.

Spurrier might be a loser, but he's not very good at it...

And I'm sure Sweet is a very accomplished person, in no way a loser compared with the HBC.
