WILL NOT HAPPEN. They created the playoffs specifically to prevent 2 SEC teams from getting to the NC game. They will take a conference winner that is clearly not as good before they take 2 teams from the same conference.

I agree - I just can't see the nation wanting a repeat of LSU/UA '11 again. I'd imagine that's one of the reasons we have a playoff.

The loser of the UA-LSU game wouldn't have won the Division or Conference ,I do not see that happening again. Only a one loss Conference runner-up will have a chance of backdooring themselves into the playoff.

Regardless, if these 3 teams somehow finish the year only losing to one another, its going to be pretty difficult for the committee to not take at least 2 SEC teams. Only if the conference champion of one of the other Power leagues is undefeated does it sort itself out.

OSU last year had this scenario and didn't get in, and got passed by a 2 loss conference champ in fact. The system is designed to get 0 or 1 loss conference champs in. The problem is, and always has been, you don't know which conferences are good until the end of the season, when you can't rearrange the playoff field. The system is probably as good as it can be for 4 teams in, but it's not perfect by any stretch

What about the importance the committee places on conference champions?

I believe C. Rice's presence > importance of conference champion. Like I said, I don't believe LSU (or most other teams) could break into the playoff as a non-conference champ.

However, it might be possible if either: 1) it's a 2007 kind of year in the other conferences or 2) the SEC dominates all the key ooc match-ups (like Aub and Ole Miss winning week 1, etc.) and the Bama-LSU were to be an OT nail-biter Bama squeaking it out on a miracle play kind of thing. Then perhaps, but likely even then only if the committee felt inclined to give LSU a "turn-about is fair play" shot.

I honestly think there is a better then decent chance that we get a 1 loss team out of Big 10 this year and they go. I just think that the top of the league is so much better then the bottom of the league that one team will sneak its way through.

If I had to make a guess it will be the PAC 12 that cannibalizes itself this year. There are some very good teams in there, perhaps too many. No team really stands out head and shoulders above the rest so I think you get a two loss PAC 12 champion who is left sitting on the sideline.

And probably absolutely mauls some team in a bowl game.

My guess is the ACC champ, the Big 10 champ, the SEC champ, and whatever school crawls out on top of the Big 12 mess and gets obliterated in the playoffs.

I mean they lost almost all their production from their linebacker position. They lost a receiver who got like 30% of the targets.

They will be good, and should be favored in every game they play, but they do play Houston and OSU in the first 3 weeks. Also, they are one Mayfield sprained ankle away from a loss anytime this season based on all his backups transferring out
