Sumlins first year was Manziel's first year as quarterback. Could the success during the Johnny Manziel era have created too lofty of expectations for TAMU?

Even though TAMU has recruited great quarterbacks not every one will accomplish with Johnny did in college. He was a heck of a player in that system.

Secondly, hiring Chavis was a mistake. Should have hired someone that could beat Bama so that TAMU could win championships.

90% of our problem is our OC. He is horrible. Our offense has not been the same since we lost Kingsbury. He had a killer instinct that wanted to run 90 plays a game and utilized the entire field. Spav's playbook consists of about 6 plays and he does stupid crap all of the time. 3rd and long and he does a screen to our slowest skill position player, and doesn't even have any players on that side to block for him. Our play calling is horrendous.

I think the other 10% falls on our QB play. Our execution has been horrid at best. Sumlin should have pulled KA after the first offensive series in the 3rd quarter when he didn't show any improvement since the 2nd quarter.

Also, most Aggies didn't expect us to be great until our 5th or 6th year in the SEC. We just haven't had the depth (particularly on D). Our D looks much better now than it has in a long time. Our O has way to much talent to be playing so terrible.

JFF helped us bridge that gap so we didn't have the expected 4 or 5 win season.

But you can always turn to the running game - oh, wait, never mind. A running game is not important.

A&M is talented enough that the program will be fairly easy to fix. Should be a top 4 program. Either Sumlin has to make changes or someone has to change Sumlin, but A&M has enough talent to avoid the dark ages.

LSU averaged 309 yards a game in 2009. 2010 the passing game was the worst I had seen, but the running game improved.

Your offense still has a ways to fall.

zip04, curious about the comments about play calling. Here, one of the biggest knocks on CLM is that he takes over the play calling at some point/s in the game & goes all Big 10 offense. Does not Sumlin at some point not take over the play calling, at least to some extent? It is his offense.

Nothing that I have seen or heard indicates Sumlin taking over the play calling. When we had Mike Sherman, he was our HC and OC, but Sumlin leaves it completely with Spav to my knowledge.

If this is your strategy you should have called Butch Jones.

Next 4 games are USC, Auburn, WCU at home & then Vandy on the road. That can cure a lot.

They could lose 2 of those honestly.

Sumlin should go after the TCU OC/QB coach Cumbie. He turned Boykin into a magican and that offense into a show.

Kyler Murray would benefit greatly.

They average 227 rushing yards per game, and 390 passing yards per game. If you adjust that to SEC defenses (just a guess), that's like 290 passing and 180 rushing per game.

i'm not challenging this as fact but how in the hell can a group of people "expect" to be great in football 5 or 6 years hence. I guess I don't understand aggie mentality.

one knows if his coach is worth a shite way before 6 years is out. k sumlin's great fortune (and possibly you fans great misfortune) is that he inherited JFF, a fantastic OL, more than one top performing WR (esp Evans) and more than one top performing RB (esp Michaels). so he tied for 3rd in the West with that and his team has slid every year since then.

your OL has fallen the furthest if what I saw on Saturday is representative. didn't protect the QB and couldn't open holes for the RB. and you do not want to hear this, but unless some other coach recruits your front 7, it will slide under john chavis as well. y'all love him so you are blind to his mo because he is a damn good coach but recruiting is not his thing at all. he expects the other coaches on staff to do that so all he does, basically, is sit in his chair and act like a guru when the other coaches bring recruits to him.

so y'all are now in year 4 of your 5 year program and not only do I see no progression in your program but i see digression. your weak schedule will mask that this year somewhat but I think sumlin is in trouble. good luck!

then why do you gig our board grandma

kyle allen is a bit on the tender side for a man of 18, further sheltering probably not in his best interest if we're all being honest
