Nope, Mullen is gone.

And do you think Mississippi State is a more lucrative job than UF (to Mullen) once that job opens up after this season?

Mullen and Muschamp are making about the same right now. Now you need to figure out how much it would take to get mullen to go back there and all the pressure that goes with it that he doesn't currently have to deal with. What's that number?

Ah, the classic "I was logically proven wrong so now I will deflect and, possibly, get angry to prove my intellect."

You got worked, breh.

You got caught in a logical fallacy and then tucked your bulldog tail between your legs and ran, per se, by pitching a fit.

You're a straw man, engie.

Also correct. Hence why you've spent half a page obsessing over it -- as you do practically every time I post at all.

Breh, you lost. I'm gonna print the shirts and you should get over your melt and things will be just fine again.

Around $6 million a year I would think. Which UF could afford without blinking.

I mean, I wouldn't be worried if I was a MSU fan- UF is cheap when it comes to coaches for some reason. I think its more likely Michigan gets Les, as they are more desperate than UF.

This is 2014. OM and State aren't going to be outbid for coaches anymore. Other factors along with the money may contribute to someone's departure but I don't think so.

That looks right. No matter what Dan earned a bump up this year from the 27th spot.

Is that concept politically viable though?

I mean, Ole Miss is known as the chandelier folk so I bet they can get away with it, but you figure MSU would get lectured for "misplaced priorities."

I don't really know, I am just asking. I would hope MSU would say, screw it we will pay whatever it takes. That is what we did last offseason.

The bulk of the salary is private money.

Hold on a sec Mullen was on the hot seat until he beat Ole Miss last year. They turned on him pretty quick after the 2012 egg bowl.

I also think Mullen would be crazy to leave Stark vegas.

No, he was never on the hot seat. There was a small but growing grumble of disgruntled fans, but they all jumped back on the bandwagon after consecutive wins over Arkansas and UMiss got them bowl eligible again.

I know that, you know that. Honestly I am more talking about the optics of the situation than the reality. There are examples of ADs that make a lot of money giving some back to the school, so its not like the money going to a coach could NEVER be spent on say underprivileged scholarships.

I am just asking, it seems the state of MS is always getting into battles of perception. Flags, mascots, oil spills, etc. I could see some "rights" group beating on yall for misplaced priorities if the cost goes over $5 mil.

Heck, maybe I got that backwards. I mean it is Ole Miss that gets pressured to change its mascot and not wave a popular local flag. Maybe they can't overpay.

I am just asking. It seems the state holds back each university in many ways and I could see this being another one.

It's like thinking the stripper really likes you. She doesn't. She's just really good at making you think you are special.

Mullen is good at making the fans believe he is one of them. And at feigning happiness and passion for the school and area. He's not. He's your stripper. And he'll be gone when something better comes open, just like almost all coaches would do.

I don't necessarily agree that we will never be outbid for a coach again. But it would be totally new ground for us. We have not lost a coach to a bigger job since Daryl Royal in the 1950s. I will say there is interest in keeping Mullen and we have more big money donors than some of you might think. However, I think everything has a ceiling. I don't know what it is but it's South of $5.0 I am pretty sure.

I am not doubting if you can afford it. The SEC Network money alone should pay that bill.

But the coach is not the only expense. Sometimes as part of the deal you have to increase what you are willing to pay for coordinators and assistant coaches as well. So sure you pay Dan $5 million a year, but then he is going to want to give his staff a raise as well. Eventually the whole thing balloons.

Which again, I think MSU can afford all that on paper. The problem is all these wages are reported to the public at large, and all it would take is one "community activist" to demand that the money be spent elsewhere to cause a problem.

I mean, MS as a state has severe budget problems. Paying a coaching staff $10+ million a year might be hard to swallow by constituents that make less than anyone else in the country (looking at median household income).
