Yeah -- and let's forget the extra $10mil we're bringing in for the new Davis Wade, which I'm sure you will call "speculative" as well since you haven't seen it on a spreadsheet yet...

There's not a coach in college football currently paid a price that we couldn't afford to pay to keep at this point in time.

I'm still waiting on you to respond from last week's tussle when you were completely blasted and your silly logical attacks (which I am assuming were unconsciously implemented) were destroyed.

Dude got worked and went into typical "angry engie" mode because sometimes, as he previously correctly stated, he who yells the loudest is often the most guilty.

TA has no time to argue and debate today, for the record, and any responses will be taken care of in the near future.

When it comes to money, it's not just about having enough to pay him a competitive salary, which I am sure M.State has. It also involves having enough money to continuously keep up with the Joneses of the league, i.e. new money on a regular basis for better facilities, new money to keep a good staff together, new money for recruiting expenses, just to name a few ever increasing budgetary expenses. And with a stadium that small, that alone is a huge money disadvantage when compared to the 100K seat stadiums that are popping up all over the conference. TV monies will only go so far over the long haul. And every coach is motivated by $$$$, never kid yourself.

Also correct. Hence why you've spent half a page obsessing over it -- as you do practically every time I post at all.

Sure, but there is a difference between afford on paper and afford politically.

I mean, I could easily see it creating a lot of bad PR if MSU pays Merlin $8 million a year to keep him when the state has problems with budget shortfalls. Or maybe not.

I really had no idea State was already paying him $2.75 million. I also had no idea Michigan was paying Brady Hoke so much money.

Forgetting my $3.5 million figure (I was basing it off Les making $4 million), you think Mississippi State is going to pay Kevin Sumlin type money to keep Mullen if he gets that kind of offer elsewhere? And do you think Mississippi State is a more lucrative job than UF (to Mullen) once that job opens up after this season?

I think it is $3.2 actually.

Yeah, that is what I want to know. Would state pay Kevin Sumlin money?

My feeling is that Ole Miss would, because screw it even in MS they are considered the rich ones. But I don't think state would, even if they can afford it because it will cause political problems when some organization says they should spend that money on some satellite campus instead. Being "the state's" university in a poor state like MS can be a burden.

Absolutely. Look at our program when Mullen took over. Then look at it now.

Yes and No. To Mullen 2 years ago. Yes.
Now, maybe not.

No doubt its a blue chip program, but it is in a state of dismay it hasn't seen in years. Mullen has his program right where he wants it. He and his wife love Starkville, both kids were born here, he would be making the same amount at both schools, his program is established instead of in turmoil, and his job security is 100%. Look how fast Muschamp will be run out of town.

Not to mention his ego. He would love nothing more than to build something completely by himself, free of Urban's shadow, and win a natty.
