What does that have to do with anything? Jones will probably be good down the line and its much easier to play early at guard than tackle but a Jones/Thomas right side would be an absolute disaster.

Thomas is not an SEC offensive tackle and pairing him with a true freshman would be comically bad.

Can always get a medical redshirt, it's separate from a regular redshirt.

That sucks... Thoughts go out to the guy... Take the medical RS and come back stronger next year... Hopefully get drafted at the conclusion of the 2016 season.

100% agree. I will never understand Butch's problem with Kendrick. Holy shite will I be red if they trot Thomas out at tackle again this year.

That's really shitty. Never want to see a kid injured, especially before his last season.

I thought a medical redshirt was different than just a redshirt and you could get an extra year.

I thought you were questioning them both. I think Jones is Jashon 2.0 in terms of having the ability to have a stellar freshman campaign. CT sucked last year but he also had no strength (weight training), no experience in college, no experience at tackle at all, and was a true freshman. I don't think he's suddenly become a great tackle (I'd much rather have him at center) but he's one of the better athletes on the line and that's why they're putting him there again. That said, Richmond will see snaps, imo and start when he's ready. Kyler is just better than Kendrick despite being a more natural guard.

An interesting tidbit from the scrimmage: Kendrick and Coleman Thomas went against one another today in the CoL. That tells me they're trying to find out who wants it and apparently they both do. However, CT won the matchup according to reports.

Sad to hear it. Hopefully he'll recover completely and get to play again.

We will see but everything I have heard is that Thomas is still a huge liability at tackle. Jones may be ok, but no way in hell this line as it's currently constucted will be productive. Almost the same line as last year except a true freshman instead of Jackson and last year's line when Gilliam or Kendrick wasn't at tackle was as bad as any line I've seen at this level. Thomas was absolutely raped by UTC for goodness sakes.

I'm not happy with it but I'm not ready to doomsay either. I think they'll be better than last year but no, they're not gonna all-world. They'll be mediocre, maybe on the bad side of mediocre, and that's really all we need to give our offense a chance. I wish I could expect better than that but if wishes were horses we'd all ride free.

I just don't understand how you would play Kendrick at G and Thomas at T...seems backwards.

I might not be able to watch if I have to see Thomas get smoked every play. I understand that isn't his natural position, but if he's the best we have out there, we are in trouble again.

Edit: someone paid Richmond a lot of money to come here, he needs to earn his keep even if he is a true frosh.

LOL, so the pretty much self-admitted weakest link on the Vol team loses one of their most experienced and talented starters... but UT won't miss a beat.

WOW. Gosh, then, why the hell was he starting?

Did I say we won't miss a beat? All I said was he wasn't good last year.
We had a crappy OL last year and losing a crappy player isn't a make or break.

Oh and he was starting last year because we literally had nobody else...just like our walk-on RT had to keep playing after tearing his ACL.

It really doesn't add up. I think anyone that watched UT last year would agree that Kendrick was miles ahead of Thomas at tackle. I would rather throw Richmond out there game 1 than watch Thomas the turnstile get consistently whipped.

I agree. I think the staff is just trolling and D. Blair is ready to begin his all-american campaign at LT. But seriously, I don't think the starters posted a page or two back will be the opening game starters. At least I hope not.

I think fans are unfairly writing Thomas off, JMO.

Sorry to hear that for the kid.

Has he used a redshirt or can he come back in 2016?

He's already used his redshirt. He won't get to play for us again. I'm hoping he gets a chance in the pros. He's actually a talented guard.

How serious?? Could he possibly come back next year?? Hate to see a guy be finished because of injury.

Serious enough to where they may have to do surgery to repair it. He's already used a redshirt and is a RS senior. Unfortunately, he's done at UT.
