Has he missed half a season from injuries before? If so he can get a 6th year.

It's not arbitrary.

You can only get a 6th year if you can demonstrate that your first RS year was due to injury/illness.

In Fishers case he had some sort of illness they were able to document and thus he was granted the 6th year.

I don't want to downplay losing a starter and 5th year senior, but Jackson was not very good last year. Actually he played poorly in most games.

He is big and strong, but slow and got beat a ton last year because he was slow to get out of his stance and stood straight up.

FWIW, here is Jackson last Thursday getting destroyed by true freshman Shy Tuttle.
This is only a hit on depth, imo

Torn pec or bicep.

Good kid, hard worker.

Would've been nice to have him this year.

this seems like a perfect place for a medical redshirt.

eta: didn't know he had a redshirt already.

never want to see this. I hate it when players cant go out on their own accord.

Nope...Jones had him red shirt in '13 because he knew he was going to be short handed on the OL in '14 and '15.

Hate to hear that. I really want UT to beat Bama and Arky this year.

LOL, so the pretty much self-admitted weakest link on the Vol team loses one of their most experienced and talented starters... but UT won't miss a beat.

WOW. Gosh, then, why the hell was he starting?

That sucks. Probably a torn bicep or something similar. Hopefully he'll get an opportunity on an NFL roster next season

Jackson was the only one playing in his natural position last year (we didn't have the personnel). He's also a pretty damn good guard.

I'm not sure how this will shake up our line but it will shake it up. Guys will now slide into different positions and new faces, Richmond, Jones, and maybe Charles Moseley will have an even better chance of earning a starting role.

Richmond would've likely started at some point this season anyway but the fact that he showed up in far better shape for camp than anyone thought sped up his timeline.

Jack Jones is an absolute monster - a true road grader who doesn't seem to have a pause or off button. And he is as mean and dirty after the whistle as any. Kid is nasty which is exactly what you want in the trenches. Like Richmond he's a true freshman but Jack was an Early Enrollee. He was going to see snaps before this.

Moseley is the wild card. He's massive and strong. Khalil and him went against each other one on one and Big Charles is the only guy KMAC hasn't punked so far. It was as close to a standstill as it gets. Charles missed his freshman year due to a car wreck and is now a RS Freshman. He was moved to OL from DL after spring (that moved worked out very well for Jashon last year).

VOLS don't win more than 7 if Thomas and Kerbyson are the tackles and/or Jones and Thomas comprise the right side of the line.

Sounds like Kendrick is the 6th guy and my guess is he slides in when healthy but I pray to God they put him at tackle and not guard. If they leave KK and CT out there we are in deep shite.

Pretty sure medical redshirt can still be applied for even if the player has already redshirted.

Sux. Sorry to hear that.

I'd much rather stomp the Vols when they have all hands on deck.

Jones isn't 250-260lbs anymore. He's over 300.
