I know there was a thread on this topic last week, but I cannot find it.

Can any of you MSU fans out there shed any light on this topic. It's relevant for my fantasy football league.

TIA

It'll be Nick Fitzgerald.

I just posted below a conversation with Dan Mullen. Here it is again.

“We had lost a lot of seniors and everybody was picking us to finish dead last in the SEC West,” Mullen said. “But what do we do? We win nine games (9-4 overall and 4-4 in the SEC).”

Mullen faces a similar rebuilding program in 2016; this time, he’s going to have to do it without Prescott, one of only four players in FBS history to pass for 9,500 yards and rush for 2,000 yards. But Mullen strongly believes in the strength of the program he has built.

“There are two aspects to this,” said Mullen, who was Urban Meyer’s offensive coordinator at Florida before arriving in Starkville in 2009. “First of all, we’ve recruited well. And our staff does a really good job of developing the talent that we have. Second is the belief among our players. This guy may be gone and that guy may be gone, but inside of our building the expectations never changes. Our guys expect to win.

“There are guys in this program who have worked their tails off and have been waiting for this opportunity. There are a bunch of touchdown receptions, passing yards, rushing yards and sacks available for somebody who wants to claim them. They have a chance to seize a role, and I believe they are going to do it.”

The conversation, of course, begins at quarterback, where Nick Fitzgerald played in seven games last season and was 11-of-14 for 235 yards. Fitzgerald (6-5, 227), a sophomore, is an impressive physical specimen.

“He’s got a lot of natural talent,” Mullen said. “He was our most athletic quarterback. He was our best running quarterback. A lot of people look at me funny when I say that because of what Dak did. But Nick is bigger, more athletic.

“He’s also learned a lot by being able to watch Dak Prescott.”

Great news! Thanks for the scoop.

I play in an SEC only, college league, with 11 other guys. I ended up picking Fitz as my QB, but over the last several days heard rumblings that he may not even start.

With only 14 starting QB's in the SEC, it's critical to have your QB starting.

Fitzgerald is good, trust me. Mullen is keeping a low profile to keep competition going because injuries are part of the gsme. To be honest, Damien Williams has had an outstanding camp. But guess what, Tiano is the best QB on the team. He's just a frosh but the coaches are tickled how well he plays.

People closer to Mullen have told ne Tiano is the future of MSU. Take that as you will but word is the team rallies around him and expect to see him play some snaps in game one.

Tiano and Fitz have all the tools needed for SEC play. I keep hearing that Tiano has the leadership ability needed to succeed already. With Fitz, it'll come down to what's between the ears, as to whether he can remain the starter. Both have cannon arms.

Williams is the most experienced has playmaking ability. He has a good arm and stout build with decent legs. He's limited on height, but can take punishment. If Auburn had him at qb, they'd be trending a lot better going into the season.

The problem they have with being picked last is that they immediately think of the late Sherill and most of the Croom years where last meant 3-9 or 4-8. Now last means 6-6 or 7-5. They don't get that it's not that they will suck, just be 7th in the west.

They have 2 gimme east opponents, 3 gimme ooc and 1 more decent, but very beatable ooc. That should get them to 6 wins. Win 1 of Ark, Aub, A&M, or, god forbid, Ole Miss and that's 7-5, but still very likely last in the west.
