the one he got stuck with
jeezus jumped up taters...the only person stuck is Little Miss Danny to all things Gamecock.

nobody put a gun to his head to take the USC job. he spoke about his situation some 10 months ago on the acc's resident homer David Glenn Show. Spurrier's bored now - so he talks to anyone who'll listen.

After his stint coaching in the NFL was over in 2003, Spurrier spoke with a booster about the North Carolina job the following year.

“I’d been wanting to coach again. I was 59 at the time, but figured I had at least five, seven, eight good years. Ended up going ten more,” Spurrier said. “What happened, North Carolina, their field goal kicker made a — I want to say a 55-yarder to beat Miami, and North Carolina I think had a winning season, so they kept their coach.”

The rest is history. Spurrier took over at South Carolina, and the Gamecocks had nine winning seasons under the coach. Thanks to strong recruiting classes the team also went on a stretch of three straight 11-win seasons.

“That was a wonderful situation. I’m thoroughly happy and glad that I had a chance to go to South Carolina,” Spurrier said.

Spurrier turned down Alabama...yeah - that Alabama...in 2006. if he was "stuck" anywhere, he would have taken the Alabama job in the twitch of a Southdown's little pink butt-pucker (for y'all sheep humpers in Pickens ).

He brought all of the things you mention on himself, you know. The "2 or 3 more years" comment, his belief that he was above being questioned, culminating in the juvenile squabble with Ron Morris and his refusal to conduct press conferences, those things Spurrier did to himself. The administration let him run rampant with no oversight.

Guess something's changed in the last 10 months. He didn't have a single thing to say about his happy times in Columbia on the show this morning, which is the interview I'm talking about. Just that if the UNC job had been available, he would have taken it.

Don't feel too badly about your all-time greatest coach dropping Columbia like a hot rock; just look at all those trophies he left y'all with . . .

UT was stupid to let Majors come back during the 92 season. They would've gone 13-0 with Fulmer.

Yeah from what I've read, Majors had completely lost the team and the rest of the staff.

Fulmer, Cutcliffe and more of the staff were going to Auburn if Dickey didn't axe Johnny a question iirc

If he quit at the end of the season I might agree.....But you never quit on your team during the season and just walk the hell away unless it's dire health condition. What he did was like the captain of a ship being the first person in the lifeboats.
