The SEC will not have tie-ins with the Cotton or CFA going forward

How do you know this?

That doesn't mean we won't play there though as these will be at-large bowls with no conference affiliations.

How does that even work? The only thing written in stone thusfar is that it's going to be done is 1-4 in the playoff -- and how the Rose, Orange, and Sugar are setup when they aren't a member of said playoff. Doesn't make sense to go strictly by a rankings list at sites and bowls that have long histories with the SEC. How would you pick it? Someone would get shafted in the pecking order by doing that as well. Nvm how pissed ATL and Dallas are going to be if #6 KState is taken over #7 Florida or some crap like that...

I look for those two bowls(Cotton and Peach) to do everything in their power to retain their SEC relationship in this new playoff when they aren't hosting semifinal games. Just because those "tie ins" haven't been formally announced doesn't mean they aren't coming. JMO. Now that they've officially got their seat at the table, those two bowls can start playing big boy games...

because it was announced like 6 months ago

It's not going to go by rankings per se. The committee will choose not only 1-4 but also the other 8 teams that go to the Access Bowls. They will set the matchups (and you can bet location will play a role because the idea is to create interesting games). In some cases, the bowls tied into the Big 5 conferences ahead of time (why the Sugar, Rose, and Orange were already set) but the rest are all at-large.

I believe one of the at-large spots is guaranteed to be from a non-Big 5 conference but otherwise there are no limits on max or min numbers per conference. Theoretically we could have had 6 last year.

Example, using last year and assuming the BCS rankings were the way schools are chosen. Using your example of Peach/Fiesta (though the first year will be Rose/Sugar as that has already been decided).

Fiesta - #1 ND vs #4 Oregon
Peach - #2 Bama vs #3 Florida

Sugar (SEC/Big12) - #7 Georgia vs #5 K-State
Rose (B1G/PAC)- NR Wisconsin vs #6 Stanford
Orange (ACC/SEC or B1G) - #12 FSU vs #8 LSU
Cotton (at-large vs non-bcs at-large) - #9 Texas A&M vs #15 Northern Illinois

The at-larges are required to include the conference champs of each of the Big 5 plus at least one school from the little conferences provided any are not selected to the semis. Thus when the Rose or Sugar or Orange host semis, their normal selections are thrown into the at-large group.

Edit: my guess is the selection committee would place Oregon 3rd just to avoid SEC conference foes in the semis

All this playoff stuff sucks. Go back to where my NYDs were Cotton, then Rose, then Orange (with the big halftime production) and Sugar (flipping between the two).

Got you...

Have they set how the money will be divided? I know the splits from the Orange and Sugar -- but what about the playoffs and other bowls? Are we going to get paid on our actual participation level?

Still alot of questions to be answered...

I think the playoff part is largely guaranteed with a small amount split among participants. Supposedly each of the Big 5 will get an equal amount but word is that is contingent on each having a CCG (thus not letting the Big 12 get away with an equal share for fewer members).

The other Access Bowls I believe are paid out on participation but not sure. I don't think any of the money details are set in stone yet but I believe that's the point of the meetings this week. It's why each day certain things are leaked. Today was the name of it and the other 3 access bowls as well as the first final. Maybe tomorrow we get the official money splits.

Meh, Jerry World is a nice stadium but just not my cup o tea

ETA: Makes me wish that Arrowhead had a rectractable roof to host a bowl game in this and the Final Four... It's alright though, Arrowhead is still the best stadium in America

Cool stadium, shitty pregame area, city offers nothing I can't get anywhere else. Expected though.

ORLY?

Where else can you be on the southern great plains and look at tall buildings?

You're welcome.

I feel sorry for you.

Maybe one day Houston will get a legit bowl game.

It's not that I hate Dallas, as much as it's just fairly generic and really doesn't have anything to offer that is distinct as a city. Further, the stadium is not even remotely close to where you stay. And you may as well not tailgate anywhere near the stadium and just get there and go directly in because it is terrible.

I'll likely go to the TCU game there though. I've gone to the last two LSU has played there. As I said, actual stadium is great. Everything else just isn't.

Yeah, the surrounding skyline of Arlington is not something I can recreate easily in other locations.

I agree, Dallas is pretty generic. I prefer it to every other city in Texas not named Austin, though.

I always say the buildings in Dallas look taller because their trees are so short.

So just to be clear, the host of the title game also gets one of the big bowls?
