Academics aren't that great except for the medical school.

Terrible fan support.

Terrible product in almost every sport, including the important one - football.

Terrible football stadium.

Other athletic facilities are very good either.

Does absolutely nothing to bring in more money to the SEC with respect to tv viewers.

It makes absolutely no sense.

I think FAMU would be an awesome addition to the SEC.

If anyone knew a smidgen about the UA BOT they would quit suggesting that they are "preventing" UAB football from having success. Until an athletic program shows it can win, they're are not going to give a dime they can't come up with on their own. It is why baseball has floundered from one of the best in the SEC to what it is now. And it is why softball and gymnastics have gotten help. Because they've found a way to put a successful product on the field.

It didn't get fully addressed in the other thread so I decided to separate the two. UAB is a top tier academic school with a huge student population. It is in a vibrant city and the SEC is headquartered there. Maybe it could dilute Alabama's influence in the league offices. The team is also improving a lot in basketball and would serve as a natural rival to Bama and Auburn. What do you guys think of potentially adding UAB?

Birmingham is a vibrant city? Compared to what, Mogadishu or Jonestown?

Totally disagree. UAB boosters were going to pony up the money for Fisher and it was going to cost less and SAVE UAT MONEY.

There is no way around that FACT. UAT purposely prevented UAB from hiring a good football coach. No way to argue otherwise.

Jimbo is coaching at Florida State now. He was always going on to bigger and better things. Hell, Florida State hired him as an OC in 2008 at a higher clip than UAB was hoping for. It is a moot point at this time.

The problem for UAB isn't just the money they are bleeding, it is the fact that they don't have a fanbase. Even if they built a winner, they are still a C-USA program. They aren't going to win over fans from Alabama and Auburn.

Does not change the following very simple facts (which are not disputed by anyone I would not think):

1. Fisher was a good coach that would have improved UAB a lot.

2. UAB wanted to hire Fisher, Fisher wanted to accept the position.

3. UAB boosters were going to pay enough money on the contract that it would have actually saved UAT money.

4. UAT refused to let UAB hire Fisher.

This is a pointless argument and you're going to see it your way. It is the same damn way with anything related to The University of Alabama.

Meh. There is still value in the largest city in the state being in a premiere conference. That is why the Big 12 should go after Houston, SMU, Tulane and UAB.

WTF way is there to see it? Have I said bama was scared of UAB? No. I could have, but people can draw their own conclusions.

I have pointed out the simple facts.

I have given an opinion that Bama does not want UAB successful in football and will do what it takes to prevent it, but ANYONE with an IQ above room temperature or even a fricking monkey could and would come to that conclusion.

I doubt anyone is going to touch UAB. They have a glass ceiling that is controlled by the UAT BOT - as evidenced by the blocking of the hire of Sullivan or Fisher.

You got a link for any of this, or is it, as usual, coming from your "sources"?

Google is your friend. And apparently you have a short memory and have forgotten what happened. You can find as many articles as you look for and the four facts I listed will not change.

Here is the link to the article I pasted though.

The Big 12 is fond of lap dogs not capable of accomplishing much.
