I don't see how they would have kept an 11-1 State team out. May just be me

Alabama IN
Oregon IN
FSU IN

tOSU 12-1 who won the B1G championship 59-0
Baylor 11-1 Co Big 12 champions
TCU 11-1 Co Big 12 champions
Mississippi State 11-1 (assuming they had beaten us) with no conference championship

Seems pretty obvious to me that they would be out

Y'all can't just toss out a score on any random game. If y'all end up in an epic match like Bama/LSU, where every college football fan in the country was watching, then it'll be cool.

You clearly don't SEC bro

Still, going into the game before any of the other conference championships happened that was the general idea; win and they were in

The loss to Ole Miss didn't matter?

What in the actual frick brah?

A one loss State team would have made the playoffs over an FSU team that struggled to beat cupcakes.

That's some fricked up psychology.

If State had been left out of the playoffs with one loss NO state fan would say "yeah the playoff committee was right we shouldn't have made the playoffs"

There would be a million conspiracy threads about Archie's role in shafting State.

That and the 2012 rally in the valley, when combined, are pretty shitty to have endured. Just hope LSU gets to return the favor to Bama in an equally heartbreaking way some day

2012 UF
2001, 2013 UT
2005, 2006 Auburn

A few recent ones, granted I'm not that old so I can't remember very far back.

The 2007 LSU game. Though only for a short time. At the time I am sure LSU fans thought their shot at a Natty had just vanished in a puff of smoke. Fortunately for them they found their way back into the game and the rest is history.

For OM, the 2014 State game is the first that comes to mind because of everything that was on the line. That had to suck.

The 2007 LSU game

That would be number 1 for many LSU fans if all the crazy stuff that needed to happen hadn't happened for us to get back in. Now in retrospect the 2010 Arkansas LSU game was more heartbreaking because it kept us out of a sugar bowl that we would have won.

Not sure why you quoted me there but that's your most heartbreaking win? I figured 2013 Mizzou

Sure the general idea before the conference championship games was that but then after the conference championship games even if State won I doubt they would have made it in

I get that. I'm saying that the general idea before the egg bowl was that if they won, they had a great possibility to be in and if they lost they were undoubtedly out. They didn't know until a week later that it wouldn't have mattered anyways.

That's why I don't consider 9-6. Bama still won the BCS, and did so by embarrassing LSU.

I would say 2001 SECCG ahead of those, since UT was already planning their trip to Championship game, and lost to a backup QB and RB.

Yeah 2009 GT. They had finally beaten richt the year before, were top 10, at home, playing the worst UGA team in the Richt era. They had it as a lock and we just ran it down their throats
