My dad is an Aggie and originally from Bryan/College Station. Grew up going to Aggie football games. Probably one of the few members of my class that was able to see on campus Bonfire burn with my own eyes. Always knew I'd end up going to either A&M or Michigan (mom's school).
Also enjoyed Bama and Auburn football growing up, as Alabama is my state of birth.

So I was hooked because of Sullivan to Beasley. Stuck with AU during the 70's and then went to AU as a student in 1982. Bo was there for my 4 years on campus.
Even being a bama fan, I envied what Sullivan and Beasley were able to do on the field and thoroughly enjoyed watching them do it when we were not playing

My grandmother has her masters from UA. So my dad grew up a fan. I never stood a chance of cheering for someone else.

A&M vs texas. 1985
12th Man Kick-Off Squad. All walk-ons. No scholarships. Pure Kamikazes. LINK
12th Man (in the stands) - Yes, we may get outscored at times at home but if we're in the game late,
they are like sharks who smell blood. They won't let up and will go in for the kill. LINK
While the overall record is nothing to brag about. I've been to every A&M / texas game since. Ags lead the series 14-13 since 1985.

My first LSU game was Cannon's punt return to beat the Black Bears in 1958. I was 10 & started following the Tigers, for the most part, on the radio. Mom & Dad only had the 2 tickets. But it was the following yr, when the Vols stopped Cannon ...alledgely...on the half yd line on a game winning 2 point conversion, stopping LSU's win streak & costing them back to back NC. I was so mad & upset I didn't sleep or eat for days. And I was only 11 yrs old. My oldest sister had gone to the movies that afternoon & she came home crying: they had stopped the movie to announce the score. Not sure what upset her the most, to be honest, stopping the movie or LSU losing. But I was definitely hooked.

3 generations before me, 2 of which actually played for LSU. It went God, family, LSU in my house since birth.
eta: And it depended on which family member we were talking about. They would get bumped down below LSU.

im from mississippi.. growing up as a kid my family would go on vacations to tennessee a couple times a year. That was before the titans and the vols was the only team anyone cared about in the state. Everywhere we went i would see orange, in every store was vols gear, every other person you passed had on a vols hat or shirt, every car had a UT sticker, or tag. I just was so consumed in it at a young age that it totally got me hooked. i had never seen such passion for a team in mississippi and ive been hooked since! VFL!

I applied to, got accepted to and visited LSU. That's all it took was walking on campus and I felt like I belonged there. Then I saw the stadium and didn't want to leave.
The fact that they were primed to be a competitive football team while I was graduating high school was why I applied. Wanted a big state school with pretty women and good football.
Turns out I got a big state school, pretty women, a BCS Championship, a Final 4 appearance and a CWS Championship in my 4 years. Pretty solid.
As far as SEC football goes, it just came hand in hand.

Hooked on A&M? Too long and nobody here gives a damn about that anyway.
Hooked "on SEC football" is much easier. I've lived in Mississippi since '82 and rarely made it to any A&M games. Now I'm football-central for my old fart classmates. Life is good.

So in your eyes anyone who didn't grow up a fan is bandwagon?
I applied to VT too for the same reason. I CHOSE LSU for a different one altogether.

1993...AU goes undefeated under first year coach Terry Bowden. I was 10 years old and this was when I first started caring about winning and losing a game.

My dad told me I could go to any school I wanted, but if I didn't go to Florida I was paying my own way.
So....I thought that Florida place looks pretty good!
Actually grew up going to games there with him as a kid. But he did tell me that he wouldn't pay. LOL

My father was named most outstanding defensive lineman in the state of Alabama in 1970 or 71. He was recruited by UA and AU. I still have the letter that CPBB wrote to my father offering him a scholly. Unfortunately for my father, my mom was pregnant with me so, he had to go out and get a job to support his soon to be family. Needless to say, I have been watching or listening Alabama football my whole life.
On a side note: My father was a 180lb nose guard.

My Dad was an alum. In the early 60's, some of my earliest and best memories are twisting the dials on the AM radio, trying to find and hold a signal to listen to Alabama football. At home, on the road, in the deer woods after a hunt...
Football wasn't on TV, but the Bear Bryant show was on every week during the season where we got to see Bear talk about some of the plays. Loved that show.
A lot of my kin had three pictures in their houses that weren't family. Jesus, George Wallace and Bear Bryant.
Never made it to a game as a kid, but to prove I am a true fan, I bought season tickets when Shula was our coach. Now have some of the best seats in the house.
