I would much rather play LSU on Thanksgiving or close to it and give a middle finger to Texas and their rotating home game.

We should never give in to those frickers.

I'm sure Perry will just ask everyone to gather on the capital steps and pray about it. That's his go to policy it seems.

I completely agree there is a disconnect with Dodds and his supporters and the majority of Texas alums. I would say 20% fall into the Dodds line of thinking, 40% are ambivalent, and 40% want the game back. My "titty baby" reference is to Dodds and to a lesser extent his enabler Powers.

As for the LSU game I said "rivalry weekend", playing on Thanksgiving Day or not is irrelevant. It is more beneficial for us to play LSU that weekend as well because if we play LSU early it won't grow into the same level of rivalry as it would otherwise. By contrast playing Texas at 3AM in April would be a rivalry. If we play Texas early it also leaves them with Tech, Baylor, or TCU to play on rivalry weekend while we play LSU which is a win for us.

I also think it would be kind of crappy that since we have been working hard behind the scenes to get LSU on Rivalry weekend since Texas said they no longer wanted to play us to just say, "Sorry, the sips will play us now so we are out." The SEC has been nothing but good to us and LSU has been very welcoming, outside of the rivalry smack which is all fun. I have no desire to "better deal" that relationship to chase after the sips who may just decide they want to stop playing us on Rivalry weekend at any time if they think it is in their interests or even if they think they can harm us. A major reason we left the Big 12 was the sips are terrible business partners who care only about their own interests, what makes you think that has changed?

also, I don't think its as simple as "the game will come back anyway." I would rather not go 40 years with them off our schedule the way Auburn and Alabama once did.

We will play them sooner or later, if not OOC then in bowls. Texas eventually scheduled some OOC with Arky once enough time passed. It will be the same with us.

The worst thing is if Aggie legislators force it on them. That will paint us as "desperate" to play them, which just feeds their false ego.

Patience is a virtue.

Why do Aggies write eBooks when they post?

I can tell you for a fact that Georgia fans do live for beating Tech. I would rather lose to Florida, Auburn, and South Carolina in the same year than lose to Tech, especially when their football team is competitive, and I'm sure its the same with Florida and FSU. OOC Rivalries are kept because of tradition, and I'm sure you Ags will always have the reputation of "running away from Texas" (even though I personally wouldn't call entering a vastly superior conference running away) until you show the Longhorns that they are your b*itches and you have moved on to bigger and better things.

I'll defer to your opinion.

But there's still a difference between those rivalries and ours with Texas. TAMU's history is fraught with placing Texas on a pedestal. This is because a large part of our identity was tied to trumping them. Between the "t-sip" moniker, the war hymm, and the saw-em off shirts, A&M was more about hating Texas than being A&M.

Well, at least that's the perception.

A&M needs a good, long break from Texas. It needs to learn to stand on its own, independent from its relationship with the longhorns. Once that happens, I have no issue with playing them again.

No doubt the A&M/Texas rivalry is a unique one. So many twists and turns, and the schools and their relationship has changed so much over time. I don't think anyone that is paying attention truly thinks A&M is defined by Texas anymore and haven't been for some time. We still will always hate Texas and revel in their agony and enjoy beating them but that's different.

To me we exorcised the "obsessed with Texas" demon fully when we fired Fran on the night he had just beaten Texas for the 2nd year in a row. If a coach can't save their job by beating your rival 2 years straight that rival no longer defines you.

To be fair, Franchione was fired as soon as the secret VIP newsletter was made public and had already "resigned" before the Texas game.

I think we're moving in the right direction. But I still think that little brother complex lingers.

That is completely eradicated by foregoing an opportunity to play them.

We didn't let him go year 4 like we should have due to finances and because he beat Texas that year.

The exorcism began the day Bonfire fell, got a boost the day we went to the SEC, and will be done the day LSU is played rivalry weekend and "Saw Em Off" is just simply a part of an old song like Gig Em is just a hand signal.

That situation is way too toxic and bitter right now. We need to give it time

^ This is what makes a rivalry. Toxic and Bitter is the only way rivalries are good. i.e. UA/AU. UF/FSU, Ohio State/ Michigan.

Ugh.

Took the family to the Capitol this weekend to do the tour thing, little did I know that there was a pro-life parade and rally with Goodhair, Abbot and all of em. Thankfully they mostly stayed around the main entrance and we could use a side entrance to get in and out.

Idiots with their posters could not figure out how to exit the Capitol once inside. Seems the 10' doors with humongous handles and a sign that says 'Pull' was just too much for 2 of them.

Agreed. Which is why the rivalry isn't dead. The game is just on hiatus. The rivalry has been more intense this year than it has in a whole hell of a long time.

Which is why the rivalry went bad. One side became apathetic about it to the point they didn't care much when it was gone.

Exactly. A few more years of A&M stealing Texas's precious spotlight and recruits and they will be dying to play us to "put us in our place."
