I can tell you for a fact that Georgia fans do live for beating Tech. I would rather lose to Florida, Auburn, and South Carolina in the same year than lose to Tech, especially when their football team is competitive, and I'm sure its the same with Florida and FSU. OOC Rivalries are kept because of tradition, and I'm sure you Ags will always have the reputation of "running away from Texas" (even though I personally wouldn't call entering a vastly superior conference running away) until you show the Longhorns that they are your b*itches and you have moved on to bigger and better things.

Yep, we don't need to play them anymore. They asserted their all-world dominance in the leather-helmet era. We can all agree that is pretty impressive. Now that we are on top, they are in our rear-view mirror. I hope this bill doesn't pass.

Grow up.

You've got much more history with them than you do with any of us. It's not uncommon to play non-conference games the last week of the season. Ask Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.

Play them. I hope the bill passes.

They love to sling that around, ignoring the fact that the first 21 or so games were not played in College Station and half were in Austin. It's a badge of honor. frick them. Keep that series lead. We'll keep the SEC and status as King of Texas. We gain NOTHING from playing this game.

R. Bowen Loftin is no such thing. You're confusing the System Chancellor, John Sharp, for the school president.

Sharp only ran for lieutenant governor twice (back in 1998 and 2002), and never for governor.

1. A retarded bill
quote:

The Horns are in our rear-view mirror. frick 'em. The vast majority of Ags have moved on.

2. You don't play someone in a series going back to 1894 and just have it over and replaced by someone else the next year. Rivalries don't work that way. Hell yes, I was to play t.u. and fricking kill them every Thanksgiving. It's on DeLoss though. We've made it clear that we'll do whatever it takes to make it happen.
quote:

This is what the Texas legislature does with their time?

3. Last legislative session we:
a) Legalized "noodling" (look that one up)
b) Make Bob Wills the official Western Swing musician of Texas
c) Make 42 the official domino game of Texas

I think most Ags are fine with playing Texas, they just don't want it to be forced by the Leg. It's also a pleasure to watch Texas twisting in the wind right now with a crap schedule, they still "sell out" for the most part but the stadium is filled with empty seats and they are having to do more and more discounts for more and more games. Texas now has one feature game per year with OU but that is a neutral site game and it is slowly killing them. Folks don't want to spend $4k per year when your best home game is Texas Tech. It was absolutely hilarious to have Texas talk big all year about how they didn't need us and they could put anyone on the schedule for Thanksgiving and it would be a huge game (since Texas is the show). Then they build up their game with TCU all season only to have about 1/3rd of the seats empty to watch them lose. I will admit that watching sips suffer is the 2nd best thing to watching the Aggies win, especially since I live in Austin.

They are a bunch of titty babies that think they are too good to play us as if we are still some little farm school when we are now larger than they are and go toe to toe with them in every category. It's just stupid on its surface that every other state with 2 major schools (much less 2 official Flagship schools) play each other and yet Texas has refused to play us because their schedule is "full" with games like Wyoming in OOC. It's especially stupid because the game is a huge win/win. The economic impact alone of the game is reason enough to have it.

I don't want to play them on Thanksgiving anymore though, I want LSU on rivalry weekend and to play Texas early. A&M needs to build our rivalry with LSU back to where it was and honestly it would feel kind of sleazy to run back to playing Texas on rivalry weekend after we have gotten fired up about LSU with what appears to be some mutual excitement. A schedule with Texas early OOC, Bama, Arkie and the rest of the SEC in the middle and LSU to end the season would be fantastic and would certainly keep the new mammoth Kyle Field filled.

Oh, and calling John Sharpe a "died in the wool Democrat" is just funny. He is an old school conservative Democrat that simply was too loyal to change his Party affiliation. When he ran against Perry for Lt Governor back in '98 I actually voted for him because I thought he was more conservative, one of only a handful of Dems I have ever voted for in my life.

No name Texas state rep just trying to get his name out there.

Idiot. Let the schools come to the decision themselves, no need to force crap like this.

Could care less about playing Texas, the series will eventually continue so I don't really care if we don't play in the immediate future. We can worry about fitting them in once the SEC moves to a 9/10 game schedule.

I too voted for Sharp, and he is light years ahead on a conservative scale than Gov. Goodhair.

This whole thing stinks of grandstanding. That is why Im pissed about it.

Ill be excited for the game if it happens but if it doesn't? Eh.

That situation is way too toxic and bitter right now. We need to give it time

So you are saying that being in the SEC and still playing our biggest rival OOC is bad?

No I am saying that politicians who have better things to worry about than college football shouldn't force the game to take place.

There is value in the game in some distant future in September, I won't deny that. But I don't want either side to be forced to the table.

The time it takes Texas to get over the divorce is how long it will take for Aggies to look past the old burning hatred and set their sights on teams like LSU and Bama.

They need time to gain new leadership by attrition to gain an new perspective and maybe appreciation for the rivalry.

We need time to build up the LSU rivalry and get that game on rivalry weekend. We need time to redefine ourselves not as the big foil in Texas, but as the state's SEC team.

Keep the offer on the table, but don't force them to take it. Let things run their natural course, or maximum benefit of decisions made cannot be realized.

In the next several years they have games against BYU, USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Cal, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Maryland, and UCLA.

Their schedule is not as bad as many Ags like to act.

"they" is inaccurate as the vast majority of Texas alums and fans I know want the game back. There is a vocal minority of Dodds supporters that still act like we are a farm school unworthy of their time but these days most kids at both schools come from the same cities and really couldnt care less about how each school was viewed statewide in the past.

no, and if the LSU fans here are any indication, they dont want the game on TDay either.

I would much rather have LSU be early in the season like it was for so many years and then end with Texas on rivalry weekend just as USC/Clemson, Florida/Florida State, and Georgia/Georgia Tech do.

also, I don't think its as simple as "the game will come back anyway."

I would rather not go 40 years with them off our schedule the way Auburn and Alabama once did.

You can seriously go frick yourself if you think I'm what's wrong with A&M. Let's see, I give money back to TAMU, I've had season tickets for over 20 years, I worked on Bonfire, I support future student scholarships, I've served my local A&M club...and I'm what's wrong with TAMU? Are you fricking kidding me?

Forgive me for loving our position in the SEC, which I've advocated us moving to for about 10 years before the move, and still wanting to play tu annually.

And I'm what's wrong with A&M!
