No one is separating themselves from what I keep hearing. Fact is I keep hearing that all the QB's look like shite.

Coming out of high school he was a lightly recruited, low end 3 star prospect with a big arm, but poor accuracy and decision making. In limited game action he has not shown anything different. The only reason anyone assumes he could be anything more is from a few quotes Jimbo Fisher made after the transfer. We all know, especially now, how big of a media blowhard Fisher is. The guy says a lot of idiotic shite. Him claiming Coker was the most talented QB of the Saban era was nothing more than Fisher promoting himself and his ability to develop QB's. If Coker started, Jimbo wanted the credit.

Coker's injury is an excellent opportunity for someone like Cornwell or Bateman to take this job. If Coker has not separated himself from the pack by now, I hope we go with a younger guy we can build the program around. We have plenty of arm talent on the team and should not be so fixated on Coker IMO.

Jimbo may have trolled you and the rest of America, but I HIGHLY doubt that Saban would have simply listened to Jimbo's praise of Coker and simply used that as his measuring stick. Trust me when I say that Saban did his own research and had Coker come in, watched him throw, interviewed him, and did his due diligence before offering Coker.

With that said, Bama will be just fine... As someone stated before, Bama was one game away from playing for the National Championship with John Parker Wilson at the helm... Bama won the Ship with Greg McElroy AND last I check, has arguably the most talented roster in America...

Tell me this, if Bama is in such deep dodo with their Qb,and will loose 4-6 games this year, why are all the boogs and corndogs walking around with their panties up their crack.
Boys just sit back and enjoy tDecline.
It will only hurt a little while...

We tried to tell you that after watching his FSU "highlights."

Sorry, we can be stubborn. Many of us still believe in Saban's recruiting evaluations and ignore our best source of info on Alabama football - auburn fans. I'll have a talk with some of our guys about this.

I'm not sure why it matters if fans are changing their tune on him based on the new set of data. Last year fans formed an opinion based almost exclusively based on their allegiances:

Bama Fans - chose to believe the hype that was largely media & Jimbo created even though there was nothing on film to back it up.

All other fans - chose to think Coker was overhyped and ignore media & Jimbo comments, even tho though there was nothing on film to say Coker would stink.

Now there is actual data - two off seasons of QB battles that he's not been able to clearly win, A-Day practice, and some mop up time duty in games. That new data has some Bama fans ready to relegate him to backup role and all of a sudden tons of "rival" fans (and generally anyone looking for an opportunity to hate on anything Bama) are trying to say "told you so".

Who were Bama fans to believe last year - Fisher who had actually coached and seen Coker daily, or opposing fans who had nothing to go on more than hatred for Bama and an unrelenting desire to have ANYTHING to mock Bama about?

So who's next in line for the Bama hype machine? I starting to see all the High School or 7 in 7 write ups.

I think we all hoped that Coker would work out. He hasn't. He at least made it a competition and will likely earn the backup role again. Not every transfer starts. Time for the Blake Barnett show.

Isn't all the speculation still premature tbh?

He may be the starter --- as far as taking the job, I thought most coaches like there to be a "battle" for qb when you don't have your returning starter?

Again, it is not like I have seen any practices, so I cannot really comment on this young man's potential.

Even with bad qb play Alabama is still a top 10 team. Now QB play might keep them out of any championship game. If you look at all the teams that made the playoff last year, Alabama was the only one without a truly dynamic playmaker at qb.

How exactly can one claim Cokers derision making is better than AJs. AJ threw like 10 ints in his career. I dont know many qbs with better derision making than AJ... Coker is unproven, with a big upside, yet unproven.

It's unbelievable that so much attention is being paid to to an injured QB who likely wasn't the starter anyway and has exhibited only mediocrity to date.

Not directed at OP, just do not understand why we're desperate for news on Coker.

Very good points. However I agree and disagree with the last part. I thought Sims was a pretty dynamic playmaker,he did make some bad decisions with forcing the ball and throwing ints, that cost Bama. IMHO Bama leaned on him and Amari too much in the Ohio State game. Should have ran Henry more instead of trying to win a shootout. Forced to many plays to Amari.

No one knows it but Bama has some very good WRs on the roster. Hopefully this year the ball gets spread around more and Lane doesn't focus on getting one player gaudy Stats. That's been his Achilles heel, IMO, he tries too hard to showcase one guy, that gets him a lot of publicity for Heisman type awards and etc. But if that guy has an off day then the others don't have the experience and the offense struggles. Thankfully Bama had a good enough D to win those games, except for the Ohio State game. They were just too talented for Bama to overcome a 3+ turnover game from Sims.

I really liked Adarius Stewart's talent potential he showed last year. Drake will also be huge for the offense. Drake, Stewart, Foster(#1 5* WR in his class) Ridley(reports are he's doing really well and the hype is valid). Whomever wins the QB job will have plenty of weapons to take the pressure of him. But like you mentioned to win it all these days it takes more than just a game manager, unless you have an elite defense (like 2011 Bama elite)

I don't know where you are hearing this because I have not heard anyone say that Bama will lose 4-6 games this year. To much talent to lose that many even with poor QB play. Just like the ones that say LSU will lose the same amount. Total BS! Even with terrible QB play we lose 3 at the most.

My thoughts exactly. And it was no different with AJ and Blake Sims. All the haters said they would suck because they were inexperienced and did not dominate the QB competition in the offseason. Cornwell or Barnett, or Bateman will be fine. I'm just admitting that I have moved on from any false hope in Coker being anything close to what Jimbo described him as.
