again many recruits from all schools say they chose the SEC schools because they wanted to play in the SEC. does that pertain to all recruits, no. But dont kid yourself that some of these recruits are only being recruited by SEC teams. The OP is an obtuse fallacy.

I would say that 80-90% of the kids UGA recruits have a top group consisting of (in order of frequency) UGA, AU, UA, FSU, UF, Clemson, UT, USCe, OM, GT. we obviously recruit against other schools but relatively infrequently.

I don't want any of those schools to gain any advantage on us. Obviously most of those are SEC teams, so by extension, I will not cheer for the SEC mindlessly.

Boy that Auburn- uga game really screwed you people up this year didn't it! The gumps have handled it much better than you uga people. You people better seek help now before it is too late. I'm starting to worry about you people.

If, hypothetically, UGA, not LSU, had been Auburn's one loss on the way to the NCG, I still would not be cheering for Auburn. The outcome of that game has nothing to do with it.

This is the bottom line, and I don't see why it's so hard to get.

UGA plays against and recruits against a core group of teams.
Those teams winning more helps those teams
By extension, those teams improving limits UGA improving

The hell are you talking about? I'm talking about the SEC, not auburn specifically. My view would be the same if it was UF, UT, bama, auburn, SC, or LSU in the game.

Dont flatter yourself.

Why is it bad, because it doesn't jive with what you personally think? Because auburn just happens to be in the game? I've said already it doesn't matter who is in the game, it's an SEC issue not a particular school issue.

But by all means, continue to recite jokes from animated TV shows when you have nothing else to say.

LSU

This is sort of different for me. I think a strong LSU is good for UGA. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. If they're good, that means LSU is beating UA, AU, UF, and the like. That's good for us. We hardly ever recruit against LSU.

I don't think it's a coincidence that we always seem to play LSU in the SECCG.

Prestige. Since the South started winning a couple rose bowls pre-1950 and the national media wasn't exclusively focused on only ND, USC, and non-SEC teams so much, the SEC has been one of if not the strongest leagues for the last 60 years.

Uh, no.

More like the last 15 years.

White boy football in segregated Southern country-club club sport known as the SEC...was never considered great football.

Up until the 1990's - the Southern schools couldn't beat USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma.

That's where football was at.

The SEC was ridiculed in the 1980's - I know, I was there alive watching it.

It was considered slow and boring.

Learn your history young newbie.

I've never really had a problem with LSU. My only concern with that situation is our place in the all time pecking order. Prior to 2003, you could argue UGA was quite clearly the 3rd best SEC program of all time behind bama and Tennessee. Now UF, AU, and LSU are all jumbled up right there in the mix as well.

Nah, just not much going on at work

And I mean I'm not personally attacking anyone, I don't see why people (not coincidentally it's just the auburn fans) are jumping all over me/the thread like I've slapped all your mamas.

UGA dominated the early 80s and Auburn took over in the mid part. The SEC wasn't getting "ridiculed" in that decade.

You could say the same thing about stanford, bama, etc. today. Are people 'ridiculing' those teams?

I get that but at the same time am more concerned with UGA winning in the here and now.

I think it may help the new members or teams on the geographic fringe of the SEC, but for the majority of members, another SEC team winning the national championship does not help recruiting.

It probably doesn't help Georgia who just tries their best to hold on to in state kids but national recruiting it helps everyone.

As an LSU fan, I don't dickride other teams.

Screw the rest of the SEC (though I don't mind UGA)
