GD and any broadcaster of college football games is told, in the production meeting during the week, by the suits who to promote. That is the same thing that happens at ESPN, any network covering sports in general. As the suits have the money, GD & his peers do as they are told, with some leeway. As for Brando, he's not that popular with LSU fans & is known around BR to use the "do you know who I am" card to get special treatment at restaurants, etc.

IF Verne is done after this year, CBS will likely hire from in-house. ESPN's guys all signed long-term contracts last summer (so no Nessler, the obvious target).
Thus, you look at their NFL announcing teams:
Jim Nantz//Phil Simms
Greg Gumbel//Dan Dierdorf
Ian Eagle//Dan Fouts
Marv Albert//Rich Gannon
Kevin Harlan//Solomon Wilcots
Bill Macatee//Steve Tasker
Spero Dedes//Steve Beuerlein
The choice from here is clear-cut. Kevin Harlan is unfairly slotted as their #4 pbp for NFL games. He should DEFINITELY be no worse than second. He is brilliant on radio, NBA and NCAA games.
Harlan brings the passion and feel for the big moments that the SEC on CBS needs. He should be the person to replace Verne.

The way Verne talks about Alabama is so biased.
You must have not been watching SEC football on CBS that long. Verne Hypes Bama now, before that he was in love with Cam Newton, before that Tebow and before that he would have an orgasm whenever he talked about David Pollack and David Greene. He just goes with whatever is big at the moment.
