Yes. Those Miami area recruits come from some pretty hard neighborhoods and they know the thug life pretty well.

We have issues with Miami kids more than kids from any other area.

Not at Miami it doesn't. The campus is about 35 minutes from SunLife Stadium without traffic issues and there are tons of traffic issues in Miami even on a Saturday.

They have a small number of alums and the locals don't really care all that much about the team. I do business down there a lot and when I go you don't see Miami gear all over the place like one would expect.

It's just a different animal.

Not sure why people thought the U wasn't maybe the best job on the board. Yes, the community supports it very little but that's always been the case, etc but it is a great job with probably the greatest recruiting area in America.
Oh, they have also won 5 national titles and played for 3 more.
In my opinion Richt upgraded himself. I just never looked at UGA and thought that was amoung the top jobs in America and history has pretty much shown that but I think Miami is. Yea, yea, the weight room isn't as shiny and the treatment areas aren't staffed with Ph.d'd dieticians but Miami has won those 5 titles since UGA won their last one. Richt is smiling on this one.

Are there plans for a new stadium on campus or closer to campus?

What an invalid argument.

That's like saying Louisiana Tech won as many games as those teams, making them sound better than they really are.

EDIT: or Ohio, or Arkansas St...you get the picture

It is used to prop up Iowa as this great undefeated powerhouse. So why not.

when they were even moderately successful the U brand was huge nationally. like was posted before, winning fixes everything. my money is on Richt bringing Miami back to relevance sooner than later.

Seriously, that's all it takes. Vandy is and always has been a terrible football program, but when they had a few good years under Franklin there was renewed interest in the program. Richt can rejuvenate Miami.

They were smart to go after an established big name head coach instead of hiring an assistant. Georgia just Tennessee'd their own program and Miami is about to wake up.

I know Miami is his alma mater, but it still doesn't seem like a good fit for him. He is a religious man and that place is a cesspool for everything he would be against. What an unholy alliance.

Hey it's just another chance to try to convert them right? Plus he doesn't have to fly to 3rd world countries anymore to help people, he is moving to one

Forgetting the guys with booze or weed......Cam Newton? Chris Rainey? Aaron Hernandez? Janoris Jenkins? Jermaine Cunningham? Riley Cooper? Antonio Morrison? Ronald Powell? Ronnie Wilson? None of these guys are from Miami.

Everyone was crowing that the Miami job was somewhere between 5th - 8th best opening on the board, nowhere near as good as USCe or Mizzou. probably not as good as UCF even...

Don't be an ignorant know-nothing dick when trolling. I'm pulling for Richt but he came right out and said he wasn't going to coach anywhere where he would have to coach against his beloved UGA on a yearly basis.

You do know how SEC East schedules work on a yearly basis, do you not?

They really haven't been any worse than any other program since Butch Davis took the program over in 1995 and the administration has seen to it that every hire since then would put a lid on the swagger.

I remember when Davis took over in 1995 at the very beginning of their probation from the late 80's early 90's stuff, everyone thought Miami would just be an also-ran. He had about three to four down years and rebuilt a powerhouse in a run-down Orange Bowl with poor facilities.

The university should have built a new stadium much closer to campus in the past 7 years. Now, at this point they do need a new stadium and to update facilities. If they do this, they could easily become a powerhouse again, given the insane amount of talent there and their football history.

Amen, so do we. I don't know what we're going to do with ours sometimes - but we love the big bastard and we're going to keep him I guess ... once we get him house-trained.

Heavens no. The City of Coral Gables told them to frick off and it's never happening.

They do not want their fans in their city. Traffic is what they use to stop it usually.

Winning will not fill up SunLife Stadium. The only time they sell out is when FSU or FL plays them at SunLife. They don't even come close to selling out other games. Hell, they don't even come close to really needing the upper decks. They need a 30K seat stadium.

Plus, they are poor.

They claim an average attendance number of 53k for 2013. However, look up any pictures from home games for them from that year and tell me if you see 30k fans.

What did Riley Cooper, Antonio Morrison and Jermaine Cunningham do while at UF?

Also, Urban DGAS about player behavior if you didn't notice.

Also note that not all the guys you listed are from the same area (Tampa, SOCAL, etc).

However, can Richt deal with the type of players that Miami tends to recruit? I'm not so sure about that.

Auburn fans should be elated that now they have a pipeline for upperclassmen recruits from South Florida

Frank Martin ... head basketball coach here at SC. Miami born and bred Cuban. Miami Senior grad, FIU grad, coached at North Miami High for years before returning to his alma mater at Miami senior, then Booker T Washington, then on to the college ranks. Northwestern, Cincy, K-St and now SCAR, where he is trying to find his chi, come to grips with his anger issues, balance his yin and his yang.

I can get why this has some UF fans a little stirred up since now they are not as DONE with Richt as they thought but you might have to change your name to scaredGator...

Younger people on the board won't remember or weren't alive when Miami was at its peak in the 80's and 90's. I'd would walk into a shoe store here in Texas and would see more Miami gear than Texas stuff. They had a very large national following. Miami may never fill up their home games, but they could recreate the national following they had during those years.

Exactly. Wasn't going to go there, but how many arrests did he have at Ga? Pretty thuggish on field behavior as well.
