Will those boosters that were going to pay $45M to get rid of Les instead give that money to LSU academics to bail them out?
Or are academics not important enough at LSU for them to do that?

"Academics" are seen as something for liberal socialists. The only things of worth at a university are the engineering school and the business school.
So in short, no, academics are not important.

The school is hiring but the athletic department is not. The boosters have the cash. It's an appearance thing.

TAF donors should have committed to match the buyout / contract amount in direct donation to LSU

They have a repulsive case of the poors for sure.

Exactly. I mean, what have Louisiana voters ever done to prove they aren't stupid? It is the most corrupt state in the US:
Hey its a horrible thing where Mississippi isn't top 5! I mean they're 6th but still.

LSU is facing a mid-year 28 million dollar cut unless the legislature approves the use of Louisiana's rainy day fund.

They did. The deal was nixed due to the vast majority of the LSU fanbase, including some prominent folks, screaming for Les to be kept. The perception of the public regarding private vs public funding of the coaching transition is just the excuse King is throwing against the wall hoping it sticks. The money was no problem. Would not have taken a cent of tax-payer money to cut the deal. More than half of the LSU board sided with King, not because of the money but because they truly wanted Les to stay. The LSU Rantbase is not a true barometer of how most fans feel about Les.

You and I both know the sad truth. Frickin' politics.

No. The money is there. LSU boosters were willing to put up part of the buyout, but President Alexander, AD Alleva and Board members decided it would not be prudent, given the current state budget climate.
The decision was also based on public perception, even though less than 11% of LSU's total budget comes from the State, Alexander is being very fiscally responsible and conservative with the La. Legislature to ensure there will be no cuts to LSU, as what happened last year....

This is the point. TAF does not have as much money as they pretend. If they did, Jimbo would be their coach.

Look at LSU Athletics revenue. Calculate academic revenue at student enrollment x per credit tuition and other sources of revenue. Think about all sources of LSU revenue then stfu about broke.

He is right though. Also, LSU would be crucified by outsiders if that deal happened.
That's the real reason and it's a good one. Money was the excuse.

Have you seen crude oil prices? This state doesn't have a pot to piss in.

Some colleges within the LSU system are certainly suffering from legislative budget cuts. However, the LSU college of Engineering and LSU Athletics have thrived thanks to very generous donors on a regular basis.
In 2013, LSU Engineering raised $110 Million in two days to fund the Chemical Engineering wing of the Engineering complex. The college gives out many scholarships, and the employment rate of graduates is above 97%. It's one of the best Engineering schools in the country from that perspective.
LSU Athletics (via TAF) is one of only 5 other schools that operate in the black AND donate substantial funds back into Academics.
You can say TAF is affected by politics, but they do right by LSU in both academics and athletics.

I've lived in Baton Rouge over 20 years now.I never knew that about Tulane. And, wasn't LSU an A&M college? I really am not for sure so this is a legit question. Now, if only aggy.....

We're not broke. F. King Alexander made false claims about financial exigency over an 8-12% cut in funding in the media in order to create public outcry to prevent the cuts during the legislative session. Ever since he made those comments (which were false), the public has been extremely critical of what they see as unnecessary spending on athletics and recreation at the university, unaware that the REC improvements were voted on by students and paid for by student fees, and that the athletics program is entirely privately funded.
Basically, President Alexander lied to prevent cuts to the university, but in doing so completely shattered the reputation of the university to the point that any and all spending on anything other than faculty or educational facilities is being questioned. He got the rabble to light their torches and pick up their pitchforks, but now he doesn't know how to make them put them away.
