You will see vast improvement with the same group next year. We lost a bunch of games by 5-8 points with these so-called scrubs under Ray. OM was a tourney team this year, and had a good coach and a couple of players that made a difference. So it's very possible.

Howland has had a losing season every where he's been, that trend will continue at Ms. State.

I see the clear tourney teams being:

UK
Arkansas
Florida
Vanderbilt
LSU
A&M

UGA and USCe will probably be NIT-caliber. Bama could be decent depending on their hire, and Ole Miss will probably bring in some grad transfers and be alright.

I think you're gonna be surprised. He'll have a pretty veteran team to work with.

He will be a good role player on LSU's team next season. He won't be some stud. That's not necessarily a bad thing, because LSU won't need him to be great.

Nobody is saying he will be Jarell Martin or Jordan Mickey next year, but he is a very good player and will be better than all the bigs we had this year out of M&M. He was impressing in practices and was clearly our 3rd best big this year if he was able to play.

Howland is not a miracle worker. He needs talent. MSU is really really really poor on talent right now. 1 player is not going to take you from 13-19 to a tournament team. Especially from what ive seen tonight and yesterday.

Doesnt really matter when they mostly suck, Howland needs talent.

I think you will be surprised at just how much you are over-rating his coaching ability while all the off the court problems start to compile.

Would have been easier to just keep Stans.

Ben Howland's first year at each of his 3 previous schools:

Northern Arizona = 9-17, 4-10
Pitt = 13-15, 5-11
UCLA = 11-17, 7-11

But yeah, he's totally completely turning around MSU in year 1

I wouldn't say they suck, they just need a real coach. They did beat Lsu fwiw

He had two losing seasons at UCLA.

That takes some effort.

1 game means nothing. LSU almost beat UK on a 3 pointer, does that mean anything? No.

Howland has had a losing season his first year at every stop he's been to. He takes 3+ years to build a program, he's not even close to a miracle worker.

His resume speaks for itself. I think we'll be just fine.

It does, he is one of the leaders of men's HC's in the SEC for losing seasons.

I'm not saying they'll be world beaters next year, but I don't think an NIT or possibly being on the bubble is outta the question.

Im sure you will be fine, probably by year 3 once he's had time to recruit some talent to starkville, until then, your talent level is really really bad. Every single stop he's been at it's taken him 3 years to turn a program around. Why all of a sudden will it take just 1?

I am addressing the MSU fans who think there's even a chance of a NCAAT berth, there really isnt. You guys have to build a roster of talent first, he cant do something with practically nothing. NIT is a good goal for next season, I see MSU as a team who could finish something like 16-14-ish

MSU has some talent, they have athletes who can be competitive in an uptempo game.

Howland doesn't coach tempo, he doesn't coach athletes, he doesn't adapt to his roster.

Losing seasons result.
