Mississippi State could win the Egg Bowl 30 years in a row and it still wouldn't take over as the flagship.
Ole Miss as a campus and as a brand is just far more attractive and has much more of a reputation nationally. Flagship status is based more off of a popularity contest, not athletics.

State is not the flagship, nor has it ever been the flagship.

I'm just trying to answer the question, State will never be the flagship. Similar to how FSU will never be the flagship over UF.

State has always had the sports title. Overall head to head has been dominated by State forever. Academically on the national level, state is looked at waaaaay more favorably. Neither are looked at as super academic institutions. But all of OM's are considered sub par. Some of MSU programs are held in reasonably high regard. Not a single OM program is.

Hahaha, utterly preposterous. "I don't like that school up north so they must not have a single redeemable academic program!" Basically every aspect of the liberal arts college outclasses State, there's a rather renowned accounting program, the honors college is held in high esteem, etc. Even if I hated State half as much as you hate Ole Miss, I'd at least be willing to admit they're pretty great at sticking their hands into cows, much better than Ole Miss, and the cheese and ice cream are much better than any dairy products Ole Miss produces on campus

MSUs only rival in that dept. would be Wisconsin & Penn St.
