Any new schools should have to bring in more than the current average payout to make it financially worth our while to add them.

absolutely.

the only realistic states to deliver this would be North Carolina (9.95 million) and Virginia (8.33 million).

absolutely.

your post is simple, straight to the point and contains not only the salient points but is full of common sense. you should win some award for this. the only thing I would add, and I doubt if I could be as succinct as you, is that we would need to realign the east/west thing. geographically, Mizzou to the west and the two new atlantic seaboard schools to the east.

I am going to vote for you for SEC commissioner, esp if you don't live in Birmingham.

Except for Bama, every school you listed fits the population criteria in the OP.

The SECN wasn't even 15% of the tv revenue to SEC schools last year and tv revenue is probably not even 50% of football ticket sales which is not even 5% of university revenue.

The LHN is less than 10% of Texas AD's yearly revenue and yet they ruined a conference to keep that prize. The bird in your hand and all.

Thank God they will always have "certain requests" then.

I think this year the thought is we'll exceed $8m or so per school

I am hoping more for $10 million ish from a full year. The problem is it might be the peak of such revenue if cord cutting continues (which it will).

Apologies to tmc94. I was working late last night, and started to get punchy and closed-minded.

The finances are all too murky for any of us to really know how it would work out. Maybe my framework has some value, but it really is too simplistic.
