On the surface, that appears to be a dig at the caliber of student that Alabama is admitting to its football program. But when pressed on what he meant by saying some people have “no business” being in school, he clarified what he meant.

quote:

“It’s not that they shouldn’t be in school,” he told Bleacher Report. “Human beings don’t belong in school with our schedules. No one in their right mind should have a football player’s schedule, and go to school. It’s not that some players shouldn’t be in school; it’s just that universities should help them more—instead of just finding ways to keep them eligible.”

the big lead is a disgrace. they post that quote as the headline after he clarified it later. the media is scum.

The quote was way out of context. Clickbait by the author.

That's true as well.

To be fair if a student is at an sec school they aren't taking the sat or act

They are probably taking the ACT, unless something changed in the last 10 years.

Sounds like he's mad he's at a hard academic school while playing football. Nobody made you go to UCLA, genius. If you wanted to focus on football, you should have gone to a football school. Sometimes you can't have your cake and eat it too....lesson learned, young Joshua.

So what does that say about other SEC (and other conferences) that have similar SAT requirements but not even 1/4 of the success?

Both count and both are used if you take them but many states will only pay for the ACT. For example, the state of Tennessee will pay for every High Schooler to have at-school prep and I believe some form of practice testing for the ACT and pays for the ACT itself but the SAT you pay for out of pocket.

I think his point isn't about Bama at all. It's about the hypocrisy of the NCAA.

He's saying that college football is the only path to the NFL so you get 1)guys in college that probably shouldn't be and 2)you are asking these kids to be a full time student as well as a full time football player.

He's saying that if you try to resolve problem 1 by raising SAT scores then the product on the field suffers and in turn the NCAAs bottom line.

He didn't say this but it would also take the opportunity to play in the NFL away from a large number of athletes who, let's face it, aren't going to do much with their general studies degree regardless.

Basics he's saying that the idea of school and high level athletics don't mesh.

Yep, exactly

Media sucks. They claim to be for kids and yet do stuff like this to make Rosen look bad and have to explain himself, which will leave millions of people with an unfair opinion of the kid regardless of if it gets revised.

He didn't do to well throwing from his back last year. I guess he learned his lesson after running his mouth against us last year.

Since we play them this year, he decided to run his mouth against a team he does not play.

I'm sure the football players at UCLA have the same requirements as normal students
