Hes gonna be lucky to make it through this whole season when LSU uses him this much. He would be stupid not to go.

If Fournette declares for the draft, and the Texans don't move heaven and earth to pick him (assuming they don't end up with #1 again), then the organization needs to be burned to the ground.

wasn't gurley still a top 10 pick?

My thought exactly. The guy has an elite NFL contract compared to the vast majority of players out there. And yet the way people talk about him here you'd think he never played another down.

A greater probability, IMO, than him getting injured, is that, if he sits out, he opens the door for other players to steal the limelight and media coverage for the whole year. Someone else will win the Heisman. Four or five other guys will be at the Heisman ceremony. Someone else will be in all those highlight clips on Gameday. Fournette would be out of the media eye...with zero coverage...for an entire year. I think his draft stock will suffer.

A second problem, IMO, is that it sends a bad message to NFL GMs. Might they suspect that Fournette could decide that the "best business decision for him" is to take plays off in games that don't mean anything...i.e., games after his team has been eliminated from playoff contention?

Bad decision all the way around.

Let's use an extreme example where he is drafted as second rounder for sitting out, rather than a top 10 pick.

The difference in comp is substantial:
Being a top 10 selection would get him approx. $18 million over 4 years

vs

a top second round pick @ $5 million over 4 years.

Although the $13 million dollar difference seems huge, the incremental increase in standard of living is not. On the flip side, assuming LF7 never gets drafted due to injury (highly unlikely), that $5 million over 4 years is a much better option.

It is my opinion that if LF7 were to be injured, he would still be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round. However, I if he were to finish this year strong, I believe if he sat out his junior year, he would still be a first rounder and make approx. $10-15 over four years.

If he sat out this year, NFL types would go in raw about his "motivation concerns" and cite "character issues" as to why he shouldn't be a top pick.

Take a look at the 2015 first round signees. Even if he stays perfectly healthy, by dropping only 5 or 6 spots in the first round...which he almost certainly would do...he could lose $5M to $10M in salary and another $5M in signing bonus.

Is he really going to forfeit $10M to $15M just to avoid the potential of getting injured?

I don't think he will but it is an interesting question to entertain.

What's the best business decision for him? Does skipping the season hurt his stock?

For reference- Just heard ESPN talk about it and NBC sports suggested it earlier this morning in this article.

He'll have an insurance policy. There is no risk.

Isn't he like 23 years old? Can't he go whenever he wants?
