And just go independent.

Then they can play whoever they want and make all the money in the world. They basically carry the SEC, so why stick around.

They can still play Auburn at the end of the year.

For football Alabama means more to the SEC than the SEC means to them

Notre dame is independent because they already had games throughout the year setup. Bama might be able to get a few games, but they wouldnt be able to fill many dates because of availability

So you admit you NEED us... Leave the SEC and we can stop playing.

Alabama and Texas could probably do it, but I look for Notre Dame to be a full member of a conference before too long. These TV contract issues are going to be big when they come up for renewal.

Notre Dame's "sweetheart" deal with NBC goes through 2025 and is worth $15 million per year.

Mississippi State received $40 million from the SEC.

It would affect all of their sports too. Unlike Notre Dame, they don't have a good place for their non FB sports to jump in

Notre Dame had to give up FB rights to the ACC in order to get a spot for their non FB sports

Absolutely not. Being in the SEC has been very beneficial for Alabama.

Plus it's an automatic ticket to the CFP every year for Alabama because nobody else can win the conference in the playoff era.

Your could match Rednecks to Catholics in this country, but Bama would fall the way of BYU if they went independent. The SEC teams would cut them off (including AU) and they would lose their Southern identity. Remember there is only 4 million people in Alabama.

LOL - there is no move available to human kind that could make the University of Alabama or Alabama athletics "lose its Southern identity".

Yes....Bama could probably pull it off in football but everything else would suffer....but as successful as Bama is, we have seen its better to have strong conference partners. Even Notre Dame can't go it alone

And when Little Nicky retires bama would come crawling back, begging to be let back in. And with no REC running the conference, AU would be the consensus pick to say yea or nay. If you don't think bama needs the SEC, you are either a dumb troll or just dumb/dumber. N.D. in a few yrs will be in a major conference for one reason alone, stability that conference membership provides.

Not when they only play the teams from CUSA and the ACC.

Don't ask Georgia Tech how that worked out for them.

In truth, when Pat Dye announced his intention to begin scheduling AU's home games in the Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare, and the SEC backed him up, some Bama boosters encouraged the UA administration to renounce their SEC membership to avoid having the football team set foot on AU's campus.

Cooler heads prevailed, fortunately.

And when Pat Dye was successful moving the Iron Bowl out of Birmingham/Legion Field thousands of Dye-hard Auburn fans/boosters swore they'd never set foot in that hell hole again.

Fast forward decades later and Gus won his first and so far his only bowl game as the AU coach in that hell hole in front of a raucous crowd in O&B.

LOL - yeah I seem to remember something about refusing to ever set foot in Legion Field again.
