Do you really think a kid would redshirt and then stay all 4 years as a starter? That's not going to happen.

I dont see why not. It depends on how he plays. Sure he might not stay all four years but there is really no way of knowing that.

Now if you plan on him being your #2 this year i can understand wanting him to get playing time since he's only one play away from being the starter.

wait why wouldnt he redshirt with an established qb ahead of him?

Get reps this year because he's starting next year. By far most talented QB on that roster.

If he is by far more talented than the guy that has the 3 most total yards from scrimage in the SEC ever, then the SEC is fricked.

I'm more intrigued to see if/how we use pellerin this year, since it's much more of an unknown.

Probably a package. Maybe a short yardage package with his running ability. Warner is much more conventional when it comes to play calling so I don't know if we will see the crazy packages that we saw early last year.

I agree. True Fr, regardless of talent, usually aren't ready to play. Sitting behind Kelly and learning the offense is going to pay a lot of dividends next year.

It is obvious he is a great college player already. How else would you know he'll be gone in three?

The fact you said Mississippi just shows your bias. You better hope we get a bowl ban because if we don't we are about to make Saban and Les quit. Jimbo won't want any because he is about to see what the Juggernaut of a team Freeze is building this year. SEC is fricked.

We got the anchor because of the shitty title btw.

I think that is the point of not redshirting him. They want to get him as much experience as they can so he can step in and be the man from day one next year.

All of our hopes are that he is good enough that he wont be in Oxford after 5 years (if he was to redshirt).

And we need him game ready come next season. Not 4 games into the season next year but when the season starts we need him to have experience and be ready to step in and rock and roll.

Same way you know when a Tunsil or Nkemchiche steps onto a field. We aren't the ones choosing not to RS him, the people making 5+ mil a year are. We also know if you want more #1's at a position, you don't RS them.

We already have a special offensive package built around Shea. Coaches call it "pump the brakes".

Hopes and reality don't always line up. It would be stupid to burn a redshirt based on projecting him out.

This is a legitimate reason, however, to not redshirt.

Basically this.

And the fact the Patterson is pretty much the ideal QB for Freeze's offense. Give him this year to observe and play sparingly, then become a monster next year
