I know he was a very good high school qb but was wondering how he looked in practice. Will he redshirt or will he be Swag's backup?

Not going to RS. Has looked sexy in practice.

wait why wouldnt he redshirt with an established qb ahead of him?

Is Buchanan not a capable backup? To get him reps for next year I guess. Doesn't seem like a smart move unless he is going to get significant PT.

Because he isn't staying 5 years. The staff and Shea both know this.

To gain some experience this year, so that he can take the SEC by the balls next year

Well, he may have been promised that during recruiting (which I'm fine w/), or coaches are concerned that he may need to play if Kelly goes down. Pellerin was a good looking qb recruit that is now a r/s freshman so i would think we could r/s Patterson but we are actually pretty weak once you get past those three.

He'll get some reps in the second half of the Egg Bowl for sure. Patterson to Brown is gonna be a fun combo to watch for the next couple years

He doesn't have the spin Kelly does, but he's a capable backup.
It gives the staff more freedom with playcalling knowing we aren't completely screwed if Kelly gets banged up.
Don't get me wrong. Kelly is by far the better player and we're a much better team with him. However, Shea is immensely more talented than any #2 QB we've had in the Freeze era and has had the spring and summer to grasp the playbook.

If Kelly were to go down it would not be good for the Rebels if that's the case

Good or Bad Shea is not staying in Oxford for 5 years. Why RS him when you play him in blowouts and packages to get him experience. If Kelly missed any time, Shea has to be the backup. Do you really think a kid would redshirt and then stay all 4 years as a starter? That's not going to happen.

His daddy is already shopping around.......Shea Patterson won't even be at OM if a bowl ban is issued.

Kids redshirt and stay 4 years all the time.

Not kids like Shea. Diamonds maybe.

Oh he's already a great college player. I should have known.

You would have if you followed recruiting. But I can see why that isn't fun for a State fan.,
