You should enjoy it.

quote:

“For over a thousand years Roman conquerors returning from the wars enjoyed the honor of triumph, a tumultuous parade. In the procession came trumpeteers, musicians and strange animals from conquered territories, together with carts laden with treasure and captured armaments. The conquerors rode in a triumphal chariot, the dazed prisoners walking in chains before him. Sometimes his children robed in white stood with him in the chariot or rode the trace horses. A slave stood behind the conqueror holding a golden crown and whispering in his ear a warning: that all glory is fleeting.” --G. S. Patton

What else are you supposed to do as a sports fan?

When Saban retires its the next man up. That guy will have large shoes to fill but he knows that coming in. If he doesn't win, the search to replace him will be on.

Hell, the Alabama AD already has a list of guys to call should Nick even hint that he would rather deer and quail hunt next fall. His job is still going to be winning NCs after Nick is gone.

Given that this dynasty is more or less unprecedented in the history of college football and is unlikely to be duplicated, has it dawned on you yet that this is pretty much the top of the mountain?

And when Saban eventually retires (be it next year or 10 years from now), that it's pretty much all down hill from here?

I do appreciate that this is good as it can get being a CFB fan and am enjoying it immensely. It's gonna end at some point so I'm definitely not taking this run for granted.

As for being "all down hill" from this? I'll be just as excited following the team for those occasional NC runs.

Very fortunate to be a fan of this dynasty.

This dynasty is not the top. That's typical underachieving loser mentality.

There's more out there.

The difference in Alabama and other schools is that the other schools wish for greatness, at Alabam we demand it. You have to win or you will be fired.

I'm also curious if the...S&C can be maintained without Saban.

That depends on Scott Cochran. He's only 37 years old. At $525,000, he makes more than 30 head coaches. Depending on the next HC and their chemistry together, Cochran could easily stay at Alabama for a very, very long time, if he wants to. Alabama literally can pay him more than he would make anywhere in all of sports, and probably would if they had to.

Most have us seen a few cycles of Bama football. I have watched Bama lose as much as I have seen them win.

As a child I used to ask my dad "what were the 70s like." I thought I would never know what it would be like to dominate an entire decade. I just didn't think it wasn't possible in this era of football. Saban has that rare ability to adapt with the times. Most coaches cannot or will not do that. Coach Bryant had that ability in spades. Coach Saban has this trait as well. You cannot dominate like this without adaptability in your skill set. This run has been beyond anyone's wildest expectations. It may not be matched ever again. Urban Meyer has that potential. He has the right school (and the right conference) and he has the ability to maybe (a very huge maybe) to do something close to what Saban has done. However, it's very likely that we will look at this run 20-30 years from now as one of the best runs in any sport. Ever.

Edit: To answer the question properly, YES!!!

Enjoy the ride because it's a GAME and the only game that matters is the current one

This run is like when Greg Madoux was pitching. You knew you were seeing one of the best pitchers of all time and you had to enjoy it while you could.
I saw my first Bama game in 62-63. By the 70's you knew it was something special. This run is special. I don't expect to live long enough to see another great run. So I'll have to enjoy this.

Much of that was due to sanctions, and Joab Thomas choosing Bill Curry over Bobby Bowden.

Thank for owning up to it. I was about to accuse Buga of being the culprit.

What's obvious to all who are reading your thread here is how poorly you're "handling" it. We will "handle" our team winning just fine.

When we we beat Notre Dame and Saban held up the trophy, some Irish fan yelled at me "Your reign is soon coming to an end. You can't be on top forever." My response was "That's not tonight."

This is all eventually going to come to an end but I'm enjoying every second. It is every fan's dream to see their team just dominate year after year. For those of us who had to endure the lows of the DuBose-Fran-Price-Shula era, we are loving every minute of it. No reason to think that we'll suddenly become a 7-5 program once Saban retires. Unlike after Bryant, we realize that we just can't rest on our laurels, play Bryant videos, talk about tradition, and expect to win. We will have to go find someone else and give them the same resources we have given Saban.
