I wonder how this is hard to imagine....I never once saw Chavis make a tackle, defend a pass, or pressure the QB.

I think the only team I am confident in improving is Ark based on record.

Bama will still be good or great. No reason to predict otherwise with Saban and all that talent.

The others are all wildcards. THere is no clear bottom feeder(s) right now.

This is how I feel. Bama isn't going anywhere, so they will be top 2. Arky will not finish last this year, but I don't know of they will compete for the West just yet. Everyone else is an unknown.

AU - Johnson may be great, he may not.

aTm - the defense will improve some, but not as drastically as they seem to believe. Also, they still don't have a running game.

MSU - get Dak back, but lose a ton on both sides of the ball.

OM - Return a ton of starters, but lose Bo and 2 AA DBs.

LSU - QB situation is still a complete unknown. Tons of talent everywhere else on O. Not sold on Steele, but the talent is there if he can coach it.

It really will be a crapshoot in the West again.

For 2015 I don't think the DC is going to matter that much and the offense is will be better. This is the first time since 2011 that we're not losing a ton of underclassmen to the draft. Not saying we're going to win 13 games but expecting a 10-2 season with the talent we have is realistic.

West is going to be stacked again. I expect every team in the West to be bowl eligible. Just comes down to any given Saturday. I think Auburn, LSU, and Arkansas trend up. Ole Miss and State down. A&M has growing pains but finishes strong and builds to 2016. Alabama probably stays about the same pending a strong QB and Lane's incompetence.

Alabama - Same or slightly down. New QB and loss of Cooper
Arkansas - Up. Gotta admit, Bert has done a good job. Losing Flowers will hurt, but overall improved.
Auburn - Up. Johnson has played well when given the opportunity, and adding Boom is big.
LSU - Down. QB still a huge question, and LSU fans begin to learn how good Chavis truly was.
MSU - Same or slightly down. Some losses, but Dak is still there.
Ole Miss - Down. This could be an "Up" if Kincade develops, but that's a big "if" at this point. I know Bo had a tendency to melt down, but he could also make you some plays.
Texas A&M - Up. One of Kyle Allen/Kyler Murray wins the QB job in the Spring, and Chavis makes the defense respectable.

Compared to last year? No, 2014 was always considered a "rebuilding" year and 2015 was looked forward to for the returning experience, mainly on defense.

I think AU is up due to better QB play, that's if Gus allows Johnson to pass the ball...not to mention getting Lawson back and having Cowart. I think MSU is down, but not too low due to a SR QB...the others you got right.

What a fricktarded post! Duke didn't leave. QB will be an upgrade. RB production will be the same. Dismukes is the biggest loss but the O - line as a whole should be better.

There is no way you can say QB will be an upgrade

I love this piece of wisdom we keep getting from aTm fans. It's like LSU never fielded a top 30 defense before Chavis.

ETA: Something else people on this board need to think about before posting on LSU's defensive situation. Chavis brought NONE of his staff with him to aTm. In fact, LSU kept that staff in tact and added an upgrade at DL coach.

Chavis wasn't giving you top 30 defenses. He was giving you top 10 defenses. If you had only been getting top 30 defense, you would have been finishing in the bottom half of the West for years.

Thank you for perfectly illustrating my point.

right, but it's possible to stay the same. up isn't the only choice for arkansas, but it is the one most people are choosing for arkansas.

And thank you for proving my point went WAAAAY over your head.

Look up. You see that streak of white in the sky? Yeah, that was my point going over your head.

Just for the sake of making sure you have all your facts, LSU finished inside the top 10 in defense 3 out of 6 years under Chavis. One of those, we finished in the bottom half of the West.

THIS.

LSU has been ravaged by the draft the last two seasons. This is the first season we actually get to build some quality depth at a lot of positions. We bring back 9 starters on offense, and 8 on defense by my count. LSU is going to stronger then people think in 2015, esp if we get some qb management.

Definitely trending UP, don't know how much but better then 8-5, no doubt about it.

You're precious, but I'm afraid I don't live in your fantasy world, so imaginary streaks of white in the sky do not substitute for actually articulating a point.

I see now that you must have realized this, since you went back and edited your post. So now your argument is that all of Chavis's success is due to his assistants? Don't just HINT at an argument, you need to actually MAKE one.
