So what is it you don't like about Alleva?

Maintaining a top-10 football program?
Maintaining an elite baseball program?
Making dynamite mid-major hires (Caldwell, Torina)
Upgrading facilities that are 10 years behind the rest of the sec?
Hiring Johnny Jones? I think he is going to prove to be a great hire.
Raising ticket prices that are in the same price range as Ole Miss and State?

The animosity our fanbase has for Joe Alleva is astounding. Other than his fiasco handling the Duke lacrosse case and hiring Trent (Who we loved at the time.) , his resume far exceeds anything Skip bertman was ever able to accomplish while here.

He has canned the swimming coach, made Van Chancellor "resign", and canned the women's tennis coach? Why? Because they're losers. Joe Dean and Bertman were always in a state od complacency, even though a lot of programs were struggling across the board. At least Alleva is attempting to put us in the same discussion as Florida, and it's slowly but surely working.

I agree with the great majority of this. He's not the best but those who think he's the worst need to spend some time studying Mike Hamilton and Jay Jacobs.

Jeff Long is easily #2. I think Bill Battle could be very good- he's fired Wendall Hudson, so there's one thing Mal couldn't do that Battle's done

Barnhart rebounded after his Joker debacle and the Gillispie hire. Still has a long way to go IMO.

I don't bash Barnhart for the Joker hire, I think most everyone thought it was the right move at the time. We didn't know that Joker couldn't be a head coach at the time.

I do fault him for the turrible process of chasing Parcells and missing out on opportunities to make a solid hire before he settled on Brooks, someone who he had hired to help him through the process anyway. Ultimately Brooks got UK moving in the right direction.

The Gillispie hire is the worst. He obviously didn't do any research on Gillispie, but just hired the hottest name at the time. Turrible decision making there, with no perceived background work at all. UK AD hiring a BBall coach, and he did no homework.

The Cal hire was made without much involvement by Barnhart, and I will say that so far I like the Stoops hire. It wasn't who I wanted originally, but he seems to be making the right decisions so far. We will see how it all works out.

Hiring a coach of Bielema's caliber to Arkansas deserves a lot of props.

Dean did not hire Saban

The hate for Alleva is mind boggling other than the fact that LSU fans hate every coach and administrator

Solid post and I agree. AD Alleva is doing a fine job. Coach Caldwell might turn out to be his best hire of all. Coach Torina actually swept defending champs UA recently. Coach Jones has us with a lot of optimism next year.

Our former AD, Eric Hyman, did many-a-great things that has uplifted our AD from end to end. He is now at A&M and I'm sure he'll do the same now.

Now we have Tanner who looks to continue building on the base that Hyman laid. So far he has only had 1 major task as it relates to coaching and has achieved it.

eta: Ohio St. came after our women's HOF basketball coach and Tanner kept them off and gave her a raise.

I agree. Just over one half of the athletic department was nationally relevant.

I will add the Vandy AD should be high on the list. Wish we could have at AU.

They don't have an athletic department or an AD. You just want their Chancellor, Nicholas S. Zeppos.
