SEC's 20 Greatest Teams to Not Win MNC (Since 1970) by SammyTiger
Can any other team in history say they beat the Orange bowl, Rose Bowl, and National Title Game champions in the same year?
2011 LSU is the best team to not win a championship.
Outscored 9 bowl teams and THREE Top 3 teams, including the above, to the tune of 500-123.
77 of the 500 were scored by defense or special teams, 423 by offense.
It's too bad it was the Media Do-Over Kneel-in-front-of-Saban Mulligan Bowl calculations and not BCS calculations...

2004 Auburn is why we needed a 4 team playoff

I didn't realize Tennessee's 1989 team was considered that great, but the Cotton Bowl that year was a good game, with both teams trading scores. Two 10-1 teams battling it out, with Tennessee scoring last for a narrow 31-27 victory.
Sorry, dude, this just isn't true. We carried an 18 point lead throughout most of the game. Arky made it look respectable with 2 late TDs, but by no means were they trading scores, and we didn't score last. You can look it up.

Like I said earlier, everyone should have known that the whole list was bullshite when they tell you, even before you get to the list, that nine Alabama teams are actually in the top twenty, but just so they can give a participation ribbon to some other schools, they're only going to include five Alabama teams.

It's time to mandate that these sites must employ writers that are at least 60 years old and have covered the SEC for decades. There's so much these newer writers suck at, mainly because they 'blog' which is code for ad hoc crap posted at a moments notice, rather than serve as journalists and/or experts.
The 1983 Gators don't belong on that list. Charley Pell (Bear Bryant protege) was building UF up but UF wasn't ready. But that 83 season set the stage for 84 and 85. 83 Auburn doesn't really belong. Anyone watching football that year could see Miami got exponentially better after losing the opener to UF and Miami and Nebraska were easily the best teams that year. It was Jimmy Johnson's best coaching effort, ever, I think. Auburn didn't get hosed out of anything.
Leaving 84 UF off the list is another sign the writer is a fool. Pell had it going that year and ironically in non-Pell fashion, that team got better rather than worse through the season. Dropped opener to Miami but as the season went on UF got better and better. BYU won the title that year which was a farce. Half the SEC and Miami would have curb stomped BYU. BYU had one ranked opponent that year. Easily the worst national champ in the history of the game. A complete joke. UF was easily the best team in the nation that year and they were literally beating the snot out of people. One of the hardest hitting secondaries in the history of the game and a Great Wall of Florida on the Oline that mauled people.
On paper, 09 UF was the best in CFB history. Returned the entire defense from a great 08 defense, plus Tebow and just about all of the offense. That team deserves special mention because it played down to the competition all year. It was an epic failure of Meyer to not win the title and not set a ton of records in the process. Tebow is already a legend but, he would have won the Heisman again if they'd beaten Bama, and would have crushed Tejas. Three titles, two Heismans (easily could have been 3). Team should be on its own list of epic coaching failures. Instead of manning up, Meyer just collapsed on himself like a dying star and then fabricated his exit from the SEC.
That writer sucks and list is crap. You can't cap the number of times a team is in there. He even admits it's a problem - so why do it?
Wuerffel won the Heisman in 96 not 94
95 Gator defense was pretty good. The Nebraska game was a blowout because UF's entire defensive front was injured. With or Without Lawrence Philips, that game is much different if UF is healthy. Also, Spurrier refused to use the shotgun. In the first quarter of that game you couldn't even see Nebraska defenders on the TV screen when UF receivers were in their routes. UF was winning after the 1st qtr. And would have had an even bigger lead if Doering hadn't dropped a first down catch around the Nebraska 10yd line. Nebraska began bringing the house and outnumbered UF at the LOS. Without a shotgun, Wuerffel never had a chance. 96 Nole defense was just as good or better than Nebraska's 95 defense and in the shotgun Wuerffel destroyed them. 97 Nole defense was the best in CFB history and Spurrier put 500 yards of offense on them with less than great QB play - the shotgun was vital to that. Being stubborn with the shotgun issue was Spurrier's biggest coaching blunder at UF. Overall Nebraska was better that year, but not anywhere close to the margin in that game. UF had become elite, but hadn't developed that extra needed to overcome the obstacles you face en route to a title.
Writer sucks. Rant off.

Only season loses were to defending national champs and new national champions. All 3 games were winnable with 2 of them being a snatching defeat from.the jaws of victory. That Auburn officiating was almost to the level of 2009 Florida.

You Gator fans are blind. UF 2001 is #10 on the list. I have to ask, why aren't you bringing up the 1984 Gator team? I remember that team well. That is the year BYU won it all when their best opponent was a holiday bowl win over 6-5 Michigan and didn't even play a top 25 team all year.
Meanwhile, Florida wasn't allowed to represent the SEC in the Sugar Bowl and Florida was named national champion by a few publications. That is one national title that Alabama certainly would claim. Yet, that team is not on the list. How could anyone forget a 5th string qb from a po dunk town leading one of the best college football teams of its time?

According to the media guide, we claim this one.
Granted, my dad who was in school at Alabama that year says no one around here actually claimed it at the time, but that lots of folks were still claiming 1966 and the three-peat.
ETA: I would've liked to have seen this list if they hadn't capped the number of entries to 5 just to see where the other Alabama teams would've ranked, but that's just me being a homer.

He's right. After the Sugar Bowl no Alabama fan said ,"hey we're the UPI champ!"
Regardless, like the 2011 LSU team, that 1973 Alabama team was remarkable. Tremendous. Unfortunately Notre Dame was awesome, too. I have no problem with that Alabama team listed over the '11 LSU team.

This omission makes me question the list. Not even the honorable mentions? They put 2001 LSU on there, a team we beat 44-15 in Baton Rouge.
Must of been a mistake, I saw 2001 UF.
Not sure how 01 LSU even made the list if honorable mention.

2011 LSU would have squashed 2004 Auburn
Hell 2004 Auburn barely scraped by 2004 LSU!
